A medieval knight of the 14th century awakens to find himself on Long Island in the 21st century. The government has collapsed, the economy is in depression, and people are terrorized by trugs (traveling muggers), rippers (rip-off politicians), and barbs (barbarians from the City). However, it is not long before Frank is killed by a pair of ruthless trugs, and when Sir Bill and Pam have to fend off a ripper attempting to seize the farm, the valiant knight decides to take action. He organizes a local militia, revives some downtrodden attempts at civility, and triumphantly defeats a band of barbs attempting to loot the land. When Sinster, the leader of a mafia-like group in Manhattan, hears about Sir Bill's sudden fame, he begins to plot this new enemy's downfall. Up to now, Sir Bill has been able to use his medieval tactics to survive on the battlefield, but will that be enough against an invading horde led by a modern-day warlord who will stop at nothing? Can axes and catapults defeat helicopters and rocket-propelled grenades? Expanding on issues that are currently revisited each day in the news, the fantasy world Tom Humphrey creates in "A Knight on Long Island: Medieval Justice Arrives at the Land of Bankruptcy and Depression", may be closer to reality than some might think. About the Author: After serving in the United States Air Force as an electronics instructor, Tom Humphrey supported his family by working as an electronics technician while attending Arizona State University. Following graduate studies at Harvard Business School, he became the instructor of finance at Northeastern University and then an assistant professor of economics at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. He later transferred to the corporate world, and eventually became director of financing for a major international airline. Author of a computer programming book and a series of magazine articles, Humphrey has had five short stories published, and his most recent work is a novel entitled "A Knight On Long Island," which was written on the Long Island Railroad during his daily commute between Long Island and Manhattan. He is currently writing his second novel, "The Adrenaline Man."
