About the Book

You can call her "Jack," thank you very much. There's nothing like summer on an Iowa farm, and while it sounds relaxing, it's nowhere near as idyllic as you'd think - at least with Jack there! If idolizing your brothers and wanting to be just like them and do all the things they do sounds difficult, imagine what it must be like for Jack, or rather Jacqueline, a GIRL. Jack is not a girly girl and isn't interested in playing with dolls and doing all the things other little girls her age like to do. She has a soul which is adventurous and a talent for getting into trouble. And you can call her "Jack," thank you very much. Ride along with the Klingenhoeffer kids, Jack, Ken and Kurt, as they sell sweet corn from the back of a cart pulled by Cricket, and find out just how many tight spots Jack can get herself and her family into. Getting stuck in a rabbit hole and fighting a big bully is no big deal, so why should Jack's courage and endless imagination be limited to everyday dull stuff. From a backyard rodeo and chickens watching television in the house, to near death on the railroad tracks and a near-drowning in the lake, Jack manages to get herself into even more trouble when she discovers dangerous drug dealers in a nearby cave. Proving she can do anything a boy can do can be hazardous, but Jack has no shortage of determination. Even more important to Jack is having her own horse to love, and the belief that it is the only thing that will make her truly happy. A summer filled with crazy escapades and quiet moments alone with her brother's horse lead to discoveries that will change Jack forever and set her on a course not even she could imagine!
About the Author: Connie Raun Foss was born and raised on a farm in Storm Lake, Iowa. With brothers to accompany her on adventures both fun and sometimes harrowing, Connie grew up with ample material for her books. Learning to swim the old-fashioned way with a nearby lake a constant source of enjoyment to her and her brothers, Connie later applied that appreciation of swimming to Red Cross training classes and eventual certification as a Life Guard, Water Safety Instructor, and finally the highest level: Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Since her college days, Connie has helped thousands to learn to safely enjoy the water and hundreds more to be instructors. It was her desire to help those who didn't necessarily have access to swimming lessons that inspired her first two books: Let's Swim with Mr. Water and Swim with Mr. Water. Connie's adventurous nature is part of what makes her such a diversely talented individual. Even more encompassing that swimming has been Connie's lifelong passion for animals, and most especially horses. First, she and her husband, then her sons, all developed and expressed their love through their individual life choices. Raising Arabians on their horse farm, then creating sculptures in different mediums, took Connie into a career that prevails today. Foss lost wax bronze and hand-carved hardwood sculptures can be found worldwide in homes and galleries alike. There can be no question that Connie Raun Foss has stored a lifetime of experiences and has once again found her creative outlet in authoring children's books. From childhood relationships to her wonderful stories of horses, all are special, and all store plenty of humor, insight and inspiration for readers of all ages. Connie lives with her three dogs in Prescott, Arizona, where she writes, sculpts and teaches sculpting too.
