Die Chancen und Risiken der jeweiligen Beschaffungswege werden erläutert, um anschließend die klassische und die moderne Personalbeschaffung kritisch miteinander zu vergleichen. Die Personalbeschaffung zählt zu den essenziellen Aufgaben eines Unternehmens. Der Erfolg und die Konkurrenzfähigkeit des Unternehmens sind abhängig von den Kompetenzen der Mitarbeiter und Fachkräfte. Die Beschaffung von Fachkräften gestaltet sich jedoch aufgrund des Fachkräftemangels zunehmend komplexer. Laut einer Studie der Prognos AG wird der Mangel an Fachkräften bis zum Jahr 2030 approximativ auf 5 Millionen Personen steigen. Dieser Sachverhalt stellt die Arbeitgeber, in Bezug auf die Personalgewinnung, vor eine enorme Herausforderung. Wesentliche Ursachen für den Mangel an Fachkräften sind die wachsende Digitalisierung, die Globalisierung und der demografische Wandel. Infolgedessen steigt der Bedarf an qualifizierten Mitarbeitern und die Fachkräfte werden knapper. Die Unternehmen agieren nicht mehr als Anbieter auf dem Arbeitsmarkt, sondern als Nachfrager. Im 'War for Talents' müssen die Unternehmen um ihre Fachkräfte konkurrieren. Als Folge hiervon unterliegt die Personalbeschaffung starken Veränderungen. Ursprünglich diente die Personalbeschaffung dazu, die Vakanzen eines Unternehmens in kurzer Zeit umfassend zu besetzen. Dabei implizierte das Recruiting standardisierte Auswahlprozesse.
