Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Ein Aspekt im Problemfeld des Kunstunterrichts ist es, Schülern bei der Sensibilisierung ihrer Wahrnehmungsfähigkeiten, der Reflexion ihrer Wahrnehmungen und deren Wirkungen sowie bei der absichtsvollen Anwendung des Wahrgenommenen Hilfestellung zu leisten. Um einige Möglichkeiten der pädagogischen Hilfestellung in der Primarstufe geht es in der vorliegenden Arbeit. Darin werden Planung, Durchführung und Auswertung einer Unterrichtseinheit „Kinder verändern ihr Gesicht" beschrieben, deren übergreifendes Ziel das Verändern durch Wahrnehmung und absichtsvolle Anwendung ist. Zusammenfassung: Die Unterrichtseinheit wurde für eine vierte Klasse konzipiert und im Dezember 1977/Januar 1978 erprobt. Sie gliedert sich in drei Phasen, in denen die Schüler in unterschiedlicher Weise durch den Unterricht - mitbestimmend und gelenkt - in ihren Entfaltungsmöglichkeiten vorbestimmt sind. Sie erfahren dadurch die Methode und Wirkung einer gewollten Veränderung ihres Gesichts durch das Herstellen einer Faschingsmaske. In Phase I erhalten die Schüler bei einem Besuch im Maskensaal des Museums für Völkerkunde in Hamburg Informationen über das Maskenwesen und lernen Südseemasken, deren Funktion und Wirkung durch visuelle und haptische Wahrnehmung kennen und kommunizieren darüber im Unterrichtsgespräch, in Wachsstiftzeichnungen und in einem Klassenaufsatz. In Phase II handelt es sich um Differenzierung von Wahrnehmung bei der Herstellung einer Gesichtsmaske aus Gipsbinden, quasi eines „zweiten Gesichts", das dann weiter zur Faschingsmaske verändert wird durch farbige Behandlung, Betonung des Gesichtsausdrucks und Accessoires entsprechend einer anzunehmenden Geisterrolle. In Phase III bewerten die Schüler ihre Masken nach selbst aufgestellten Kriterien, präsentieren ihre Masken in einer Vitrine in der Pausenhalle und äußern sich zur weiteren Verwendung der Masken.
