Before you begin working in the area of toy building, we would like to take some time and talk about the overwhelming thoughts of woodworking.
People go on U-Tube and watch woodworking videos and are ultimately scared away because of the size of the shop and the amount of equipment needed along with the skill set required. Yes, there are those folks out there that have those 2000 square foot shops with $ 50,000.00 or more in equipment. Let me calm your fears on this. You can purchase all the equipment needed along with supplies (visit the website:
Kentuckytimbertoys.com in the getting started section) for less than a set of golf clubs.
We started in a two-car garage with benchtop tools and on Saturday mornings my 5-year-old son (at the time) and I would create and build a toy for him to play with. We have continued forward with this in mind and believe that the tag line of timber rough, timber tough truly describe the toys themselves.
Being a former Marine and a former Police Officer, we started this book because we felt that it is the perfect time to give back to those that serve our country. All the proceeds from this book are being donated to The Wounded Warrior Project in honor of our heroes that protect us every day.
This book contains a series of wooden toys for Children that highlight our men and women of the armed services. Each toy has its own representation for a specific branch of service. For the Air Force, we chose an A-10 Warthog. For the Army, the Abrams M-1 Tank. For the Marine Corps the Chinook 47 helicopter.
For the Coast Guard, we chose the Dolphin Rescue helicopter. And for the Navy, the toy box is an Aircraft Carrier. We made the Humvee because everyone uses them. I hope that they will be embraced by all. You can view our designs at Kentuckytimbertoys.com the Warrior Series.
I hope that you will enjoy building the toys and toy box that are in this book and know that you are helping the men and women that have protected and still protect this great country.
