About the Book

Nachdem Marx seine ökonomischen Studien von 1857/58 zur Selbstverständigung zusammengefasst hatte - seit ihrer Erstveröffentlichung 1939/1941 bekannt als "Grundrisse der Kritik der politischen �konomie" (siehe MEGA II/1) -, plante er die Publikation seines gro�en ökonomischen Werkes in einzelnen, in zwangloser Folge erscheinenden Heften unter dem Titel "Zur Kritik der politischen �konomie." Das Erste Heft mit den beiden Kapiteln "Die Waare" und "Das Geld oder die einfache Circulation" erschien 1859 (siehe MEGA II/2). Das in MEGA II/3 edierte, zunächst als unmittelbare Fortsetzung begonnene Manuskript trug daher ebenfalls den Titel "Zur Kritik der politischen �konomie" und auf den ersten beiden Manuskriptheften zusätzlich die �berschrift "Drittes Capitel. Das Capital im Allgemeinen." Die in der Zeit von August 1861 bis Juli 1863 geschriebenen 23 Hefte bilden mit ihren rund 1.500 Seiten das umfangreichste von Marx überlieferte Manuskript. In den ersten fünf Heften werden zum Produktionsprozess des Kapitals gehörende Themen dargestellt: 1. Verwandlung von Geld in Kapital, 2. Das absolute Mehrwert, 3. Der relative Mehrwert. Die in den Heften VI bis XV enthaltenen "Theorien über den Mehrwert" nehmen etwa die Hälfte des gesamten Manuskripts ein: Marx untersucht die ökonomischen Theorien vor Ricardo (Steuart, die Physiokraten, Adam Smith u. a.), die Theorie David Ricardos selbst (wobei der Grundrente breiter Raum gewidmet wird) und Theorien nach Ricardo (Malthus, Torrens, Mill u. a.). In den Heften XVI bis XVIII werden vorwiegend Problemfelder des späteren zweiten und dritten Bandes des "Kapitals" behandelt, vor allem die Verwandlung von Mehrwert in Profit, die allgemeine Profitrate und der Produktionspreis sowie das tendenzielle Sinken der Profitrate. In den Heften XIX bis XXIII werden die �berlegungen über den relativen Mehrwert, zur formellen und realen Subsumtion der Arbeit unter das Kapital, zur Rückverwandlung von Mehrwert in Kapital sowie zur ursprünglichen Akkumulation fortgesetzt und vervollständigt. Schlie�lich skizziert Marx im Januar 1863 in Heft XVIII neue Planentwürfe für sein später "Das Kapital" genanntes Werk, in denen die Gliederung der drei Bände im Wesentlichen vorgegeben wird. So werden insgesamt gesehen in den 23 Heften des Manuskripts von 1861-1863 grundlegende Voraussetzungen der Marx'schen Kapitalismusanalyse geschaffen. Die hier in zweiter, inhaltlich unveränderter Auflage vorgelegte dreibändige Ausgabe ersetzt die seit einigen Jahren vergriffenen sechs Teilbände der MEGA, die in den Jahren 1976 bis 1982 erschienen sind.
