Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Bei der vorliegenden Arbeit handelt es sich um eine ökonometrische Analyse von Aktienkursen und Handelsvolumen börsennotierter deutscher Unternehmen, in der die Fragestellung untersucht wird, ob mit dem Wechsel von Unternehmen in den SMAX (Small Cap Exchange) außergewöhnliche Kapitalmarktreaktionen verbunden sind. Diese Fragestellung ist vor dem Hintergrund zu sehen, dass sich Unternehmen mit einer Aufnahme in den SMAX zu erhöhter Transparenz und Verbesserung der Handelbarkeit ihrer Aktien verpflichten. Seit geraumer Zeit haftet kleinen und mittelständischen Aktiengesellschaften (Small Caps) der Ruf geringer Handelsumsätze und schlechter Kapitalmarktkommunikation an. Als neues Börsensegment speziell für Nebenwerte wurde am 26. April 1999 der SMAX ins Leben gerufen. Der SMAX richtet sich an börsennotierte Aktiengesellschaften, die weder im Deutschen Aktienindex der dreißig größten Unternehmen (DAX), der siebzig nächst größten Unternehmen (M-DAX), noch im Neuen Markt notiert sind und somit zur großen Zahl anonymer Nebenwerte zählen. Seit seiner Ankündigung am 22. Juni 1998 konnte die Deutsche Börse AG 91 Unternehmen zur Teilnahme am Starttermin gewinnen. Das Einhergehen geringer Handelsumsätze und minimaler Kapitalmarktkommunikation hält vor allem institutionelle Investoren von einem Engagement in Nebenwerten weitestgehend ab. Die Konzeption des SMAX sieht deswegen vor, die teilnehmenden Unternehmen durch erhöhte Transparenz und aktive Kapitalmarktkommunikation aus der Masse der Nebenwerte hervorzuheben. Gegenstand der ökonometrischen Betrachtung dieser Arbeit sind Aktienkurse und Handelsvolumen von SMAX-Unternehmen sowie börsennotierten Nebenwerten ohne Listing im SMAX im Rahrem einer Ereignisstudie. Anlass zu dieser Untersuchung sind Beobachtungen anderer Kapitalmarktstudien über die Ankündigung von mehr Transparenz bei Aktiengesellschaften.
