About the Book

"There are many fish in the sea." goes the expression as we have heard many a time when our parents give us advice on love, romance and marriage. Someone once said to me while mentioning to him that I was writing a book on Schizophrenia... "There are many books on schizophrenia." I simply thought silently "Yes but for who and with what purpose?" Let me make this as clear as the water in the glass next to my laptop... This is not a self-help book for those of us affected by schizophrenia whether as caretakers or consumers and I am not looking to give advice as our parents can concerning love or marriage or any other subject deemed necessary by the ones who love us more than life itself...Open your heart... What is life? What is life but experience? Experience inside...experience outside. So many books on schizophrenia that I have read as a consumer always speak of "the outside world" or what others who do not suffer the disease can see and understand. Mere prescription glasses for simple blindness or ignorance of the soul. But what is schizophrenia and where is it located? Is it not...in a realm of the unknown to mere man? Who are you and who am I? Who suffers the disease and who does not? Is it not me? It is I, it is me, it is a young woman who suffers the disease who writes this book... and it is not for you "dear ignorant one" but for those of us who live on the edge of mankind... On the edge of losing our soul day in, day out... never knowing when the last scream will be...Why must another book be written for the rich of heart, soul or mind, the privileged ones of solid health, the mere mortal man which knows no contempt, suffering or pain beyond simple death? Why must I explain my soul... sold to a poisoned immortality to someone like you? Someone who simply needs "prescription glasses"? Enough! Enough...I say. For so many of us cry for something more... Those who cry, those who cry I do indeed say... For, look at the eyes of those in mental wards... what are they like? Have you ever seen my eyes? My eyes are blue, a light sky blue floating along with the very white clouds in the heavens above... birds flying freely and warm tropical breezes afloat...for my eyes are happy eyes... But this was not always so... Just as the eyes of those whose beds rest in hospitals till their eternal tomb with a flower above... Enough I whisper... enough whispers my heart... Where are the books for the sick? Where are the books for the ill? Where are the stories to accompany them in their lone journeys? ... For those of us who stand completely and totally alone on the moon in the stillness of the night bleeding alive... Shout!! Shout heart...for I wish to shout... I wish to sing the opera of my soul for those who simply cannot... For those whose eyes are lost, hidden inside labyrinths... Schizophrenia does not sing much less scream...it simply has no vocal cords... But I do! But I do and by God I will use it... So, hear my heart, hear my soul...hear me now mere mortal of mine who knows only death... Do you not wish to know what once really was inside of my light blue eyes?... What still tiptoes around me? ... Let me tell you a story...
