Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Medien, Kunst, Musik, Note: 1,7, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Moderne Medien wie das Internet sind mittlerweile zu einer wichtigen Sozialisationsinstanz für Heranwachsende geworden (vgl. Shell 2006, S.83). Es gibt in unserer Gesellschaft nur noch wenige Jugendliche, die ohne eigenen Internetzugang aufwachsen, so dient dieser ihnen auch zur Herausbildung einer eigenen Persönlichkeit. Identität entsteht somit nicht mehr nur in Auseinandersetzung mit anderen, sondern auch in der virtuellen Welt, beispielsweise in sozialen Netzwerken, in denen Jugendliche sich ein Profil angelegt haben (vgl. Hoffmann 2004, S.157). Weltweit haben sich bis zum Jahr 2009 bereits "734 Millionen" (Hutt in Stern 37/2009, S. 125) Menschen in sozialen Netzwerken angemeldet, Spitzenreiter dabei ist Facebook. Längst dienen diese Communities als digitale Treffpunkte, als Orte, alte Bekannten wiederzutreffen, neue Leute kennenzulernen und sich mit Freunden zu unterhalten. Spätestens seit der US-Präsidentschaftswahl im Jahr 2008 dienen soziale Netzwerke auch als Überbringer politischer Botschaften. "Über Facebook und Co. werden Revolutionen koordiniert, Wahlen entschieden, hier verkündet Papst Benedikt XVI. nicht nur Glaubensbekenntnisse, sondern seine nächsten Auftritte, hier macht sich der Kollege mit Kommentaren wie "Ich hatte Spaß in der Hüpfburg auf dem Flohmarkt vor meiner Haustür!" zum Affen, hier zeigt die Nachbarin ihre Urlaubsfotos, hier trifft man die vergessene Jugendliebe aus dem Zeltlager in Dänemark wieder" (Hutt in Stern 37/2009, S.125). Es zeigt sich, dass soziale Netzwerke nahezu über den gesamten Globus zahlreiche Möglichkeiten zum politischen Agieren, zur Interaktion ebenso wie zur Selbstdarstellung bieten.
