About the Book

Ebba Møller (f. 1938) har lige fra barndommen været interesseret i historier om menneskene i det nære samfund, ikke mindst på Vestfyn. Hun har især haft stor betydning for landsbyerne Køng/Gummerup, hvor hun er kendt for at have gravet dybt i de lokalhistoriske arkiver og for at have skrevet flere bøger og artikler om sine fund. Bolthøj-krøniken udspringer fra den lille fynske landsby, hvor alle kender alle på godt og ondt, og lever med i hinandens liv. Store følelser hersker mellem rig og fattig, både kærlighed og had, hjælpsomhed og forbrydelser, sammenhold og svigt. Disse (næsten) autentiske hændelser kommer fra forskellige egne af Fyn, men foregår her i det fiktive sogn Bolthøj. I denne bog bevæger vi os fra 1870 helt frem til 1945. Estelle og Jens Christian fra Olegården planlægger bryllup, men må igennem mange besværligheder inden det lykkes. Blandt andet giver Jens Christians gamle fjende, gårdejer Engeman, dem mange vanskeligheder. En ny familie med seks børn kommer til sognet, og fattige, som de er, indlogeres de på sognets fattighus. Familien er vellidt af alle bortset fra Engeman, der også her spiller en fjendtlig rolle. Men heldigvis er der besindige mænd i sognet, der tager vare om familien. For den ældste pige, Juanita, arter det sig godt: som barn besøger hun England sammen med sin nye familie, og efter hjemkomsten får den begavede pige mulighed for at studere. Hun bliver dermed en af de første piger i landet, der får en studentereksamen og mulighed for at studere på universitetet. Senere fortsætter de store oplevelser: Juanita besøger Indien sammen med sine forældre, og opnår derefter mulighed for at opholde sig hos en fyrstelig familie i Zarens Rusland. Her er det lige ved at gå galt for den unge pige, der slet ikke er vant til hoffets stive og forældede former. Og der fødes børn i Bolthøj i disse år. Både ritmesteren og Marinus Hønsepasser har fjorten børnebørn, men så fører en af dem pludselig ... Bogen er femte bind af seks i Bolthøj-krøni
