About the Author: About the Author: "It's not good to raise a son on the railroad," Gary's mother used to say, "It puts rambling in their shoes." Working for the MK&T railroad, (or the Katy as it was more commonly called) Gary's father and mother, Glenn and Delores Humphrey, lived in a railroad work car. They rumbled down the tracks from one railroad town to another and while side tracked in Franklin, Missouri their second son, Gary, was born. Gary said of himself, "I was born a railroad bum and have been a bum ever since." Writing, yarning, and rambling have always been a passion for Gary. As a youngster he wrote short stories about those 'regions beyond' that captured his imagination. Two years after his conversion to Christ, Gary felt the call of God to the mission fields of the world. His missionary evangelism journeys took him to such divergent cultures as the native people of Alaska, the busy city of Hong Kong, the crowded cities of Taiwan, the dusty cities of Mexico, and the poverty of the Philippines. He supported his "mission's habit" working at various jobs such as: farming, logging, truck driving, heavy equipment operator and carpenter. Mixing his love for history with the characters he met in his travels and work, Gary, brings them together on the pages of his books. Some people read and write about adventure, but others have the privilege to live an adventure. Ministry was never dull for Gary. He's been tracked by a grizzly bear, ship wrecked, plane wrecked, threatened with being shot, confronted by a gang, and surrounded by Muslim guerrillas. Through it all, he never lost his passion for telling other people about the greatest adventure of all; that of knowing Jesus Christ as their personal savior. It is his fervent desire that those who read his books have their faith challenged to begin rambling the rails of their own journeys of faith.
