Die Frage, die sich aufdrängt ist: Warum entscheidet sich Gaston für Leontine? Was lässt ihn auf einmal zu der Person zurückkehren, der er ganz am Anfang der Erzählung begegnet ist? Die Antwort auf diese Fragen findet sich wohl auf der Ebene des Discours. Hier stellt sich die Frage nach einem Bildsystem, auf das sich alle Figuren beziehen können. Die Jagd spielt in Eichendorffs "Entführung" eine große Rolle, immer wieder wird darauf Bezug genommen. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es bedeutend, dass im Zentrum der Erzählung eine Diana steht, was auf den Diana-Mythos verweist. Die Bezüge zur Jagd sind zahlreich: Gleich zu Beginn tritt der noch namenlose Gaston als "Wildschütz" auf, Gaston "treibt" angeblich die Räuberbande durch den Wald, Diana selbst erlernte als Kind "Jagdkünste", sie singt von einem "Jäger", der sie entführen müsste, so weit nur einige der zahlreichen Stellen, die die Erzählung ganz eindeutig in den Kontext der Jagd stellen. Die Jagd bietet ein Paradigma, das sich leicht auf Beziehungen übertragen lässt. Das Gerichtet-Sein des einen auf den anderen ist damit leicht darzustellen. In der Erzählung sind aber vor allem die Unstimmigkeiten und Konflikte im Bezug auf dieses Paradigma zu beachten. Das Problem ist nämlich, dass es hier um Rollen geht, die nicht so ohne weiteres mit den Figuren der Erzählung zu identifizieren sind. Auch das Leitmotiv der Masken verweist auf Eichendorffs Spiel mit Rollen. Damit können durchaus auch Geschlechterrollen gemeint sein. Das macht die Analyse der Beziehungen zwischen den Figuren so schwierig, weil man in den entsprechenden Situationen immer nur die Gedanken einer Figur erfährt. Diese Perspektive entspricht auch der Haltung bei der Jagd, da man eben nicht Wild und Jäge
