About the Book

Corruption and malpractice had created mistrust in the American Government, resulting in the election of an idealist to the role of President of the United States. She promised to mend tensions caused by the chaos, but the Stars and Stripes hung by a thread. Meanwhile, the ultra-capitalist, William Abel Easton, led his new party in subverting the old guard through violence, bribery, and intimidation. The paramilitary arm to this Movement-the American Front- worked in secret to prepare for the Great Strife that will soon engulf the country. It began when the American Front raided the National Guard stockpile in Massachusetts and used its armaments to place the Boston metropolitan area under martial law. Government forces were ill-equip to respond, culminating in Congressional debate in Washington and mass protests that landed at the very steps of the House and Senate. President Davis addressed the nation through her signature speech, labeled the "Fall of the Brave" by the media. In it, Davis denounced the American Front and their leading Ultracapitalist Party as terrorist organizations, unofficially calling for a declaration of war against them. Days later-attacks on the Capitol and White House decimated the Line of Succession, with surviving Congressional, Judicial, and Administration officials cut off and disbanded. The old systems utterly collapse. Fear and anger spread coast to coast. People would come together in desperate bids to survive as the battles spilled over into their backyards. The American Front rapidly seizes control over large sections of the East Coast, determined to build momentum and secure their Movement, feeding their armed forces, their supporters, and their ambitions. They want to establish an era centralized on the idea of an American Empire with them as sole proprietors. John Rache is a man trying to survive in the war-torn United States. He witnesses firsthand as the 250-year-old experiment falters. He doesn't want to fight. Like many, he thought the conflict was far away and wouldn't touch his small town. When the Fronters arrive in Morrisville, Connecticut, John's life gets upended. If he doesn't fight, he dies. If he doesn't run, he dies. If he does nothing, everything's lost. He's a choice to make. His family and friends depend on him. His road will take him across battlefields and face to face with those impacted by the war. The death he finds along the way is enough to make him question if there'll be anything worth saving if he fails. John must find what he's looking for, to survive until he does. Because if he doesn't find her, everything he's fought for will mean nothing.
