Einführung [...] Die mannigfaltigen Gründe für die heutige Anerkennung Johannes Gutenbergs als Initiator einer medialen Revolution und die Frage, ob seine Person dieser oktroyierten Rolle gerecht wird, sind der Rahmen für die Untersuchungen dieser Arbeit. Dabei wird im Schwerpunkt die Person Gutenberg betrachtet und seine Erfindungen, Handlungen und Herkunft auf Einflüsse auf seinen Lebensweg und die Ergebnisse seiner Arbeit analysiert. Der von mir gewählte biographische Ansatz stellt den Menschen Gutenberg in seiner Zeit in den Vordergrund, um so den Weg zu seinen Erfindungen besser nachvollziehen zu können, was bei einer bloßen Betrachtung der Erfindung des Buchdrucks untergehen würde. Das Leben des Johannes Gutenbergs ist dabei stets im Zusammenhang des aufblühenden Städtewesens im Heiligen Römischen Reich des 14. und 15. Jahrhunderts zu sehen, sowie in dem sozialen Konflikt der herrschenden und der nach Herrschaft strebenden Gruppierungen in den Städten an sich und im Reich. Der im europäischen Raum aufkommende Humanismus stellte dabei die geistige Vorraussetzung dar, die die Nachfrage an technischen Erfindungen zur schnelleren und einheitlichen Verbreitung von Informationen und Gedanken in Buch- oder Flugblattform erhöhte. Dabei ist der Buchdruck nicht als Ursache, sondern als Multiplikator zu sehen. Die Gutenberg-Forschung stieß und stößt dabei an die Grenzen, Gutenberg eindeutig bestimmte Erfindungen und deren Ausprägung zu- und nachzuweisen und die genaue Bandbreite seines Lebensweges zu erfassen. Die Quellenlage beschränkt sich hauptsächlich auf Urkunden und Akten, die nicht immer genaue Anhaltspunkte geben, sondern einen nicht zu unterschätzenden Raum für Spekulationen offen halten, da weder Bücher mit Vermerken Gutenbergs versehen wurden, no
