Through the author's memoirs attached to the thirty plus jobs/positions he obtained during his employment journey, The Jobs of My Life provides the reader with advice, recommendations, and suggestions of what to do and what to look out for when you are searching for a new job or are floundering in an existing one. This is not a "get rich quick" book. However, the book does provide the reader with guidelines for finding a path toward a fulfilling employment life.
Most of us will spend a third of our lives in jobs or positions of employment that may or may not be positive experiences, just steps toward a chance at finding our niche in the working world.
The author also has presented supervisor/management styles that he has witnessed through years of working in a variety of environments. He has related his opinions of what type of administrative methods best serve all concerned, including not only the management perspective, but also the front line employee's viewpoint.
Through the stories of the author's adventures in the working world, from his first ever job to his last position before retirement, The Jobs of My Life has encompassed fifty years of his personal successes and pitfalls that actually occurred in his real life. Ninety percent of the stories and anecdotes that the author has related in this book are true and real to the best of his knowledge. The other ten percent were either lapses in memory or just words added for the flow of the narrative.
Several of the jobs in the beginning of the book are menial or common and were short in time and content. However, they served to establish the backbone of the author's personality, growth, and demeanor. The positions that were longer in term and perseverance served as a basis of his self worth and assuredness. He mentions "self-actualization" several times in the book as a goal that he attempted to attain during certain periods of his working life. His idea of achieving self-actualization is when one finally learns who they are and what they are about and reaches the true potential that is in all of us. There were many obstacles in his working life that delayed his realization of this goal. However, he learned from his mistakes, advanced in knowledge from the negatives, grew in self-confidence even through difficult times, and continued to increase in self-worth until he achieved his self-actualization objective. It wasn't easy, and it took almost forty years of his life to accomplish, but it was well worth the wait.
Take on the challenges that are presented to you, fight through the adversities, do not accept failure, and become the outstanding individual that you know is inside of you. Explore the possibilities, and be the best you can be. Enjoy the read.
