Cuando Mahoma estableció el Islam en Arabia, insistió en que no estaba proclamando una nueva religión, ya que creía que todos los profetas que lo habían precedido habían llevado el mismo mensaje. De vez en cuando, Dios había enviado profetas y había revelado Su voluntad en libros sagrados; pero los hombres eran rebeldes y, por lo tanto, era necesario que enviara periódicamente un nuevo profeta para conducirlos de regreso a la verdad. Mahoma no tenía la sensación de ningún desarrollo gradual en el conocimiento de Dios, ya que creía que el conocimiento de la religión verdadera le había sido dado al hombre desde el principio. La razón por la que Dios necesitaba enviar profetas con nuevas revelaciones era porque los hombres se habían alejado de la verdad y necesitaban ser llamados para volver a ella. Así que hombres como Abraham, Moisés, Jesús y él mismo tenían la misma tarea, y ninguno de ellos era esencialmente diferente de los demás. Siendo este el credo de Mahoma, se deduce naturalmente que no pudo aceptar lo que los cristianos enseñaban sobre la persona de Jesús. Para él, Jesús no era más que un profeta, aunque se le concedió una dignidad que no se le había dado a nadie más. . El Corán habla del nacimiento virginal; considera a Jesús como la `` Palabra de Dios '' y un espíritu de él; declara que es "eminente en este mundo y en el venidero, y uno de los que se acercan a la presencia de Dios"; y le atribuye milagros maravillosos. Pero Mahoma no podía admitir que era algo más que otros hombres. Entendió la doctrina de Su filiación en un sentido carnal, y lo negó enérgicamente. Dijo que si Dios fuera Padre, también tendría que ser abuelo y tío; e insistió en que el nacimiento de Jesús no fue tan único como el de Adán y Eva, ya que no tuvieron ni padre ni madre. El propósito de este volumen es presentar una historia de Jesús tal como aparece en las obras de escritores musulmanes. He recopilado los pasajes relevantes del Corán. Me limité a aquellos pasajes que hacen una referencia precisa a Jesús, omitiendo aquellos que simplemente están dirigidos a los cristianos sin ninguna referencia particular a Jesús. He agregado algunas selecciones de '' Thalabis Kis '' así como de '' Al Anbiya ' 'dei Proeti), junto con un pasaje de la' 'Historia Universal' 'de Abu al Fida. La parte principal de este volumen consta de relatos y dichos atribuidos a Jesús que se encuentran en los escritos de varios autores musulmanes. El profesor Margoliouth recopiló 77 pasajes, 71 de los cuales provienen de Ihya Ulum ad Din (Revivificación de las ciencias religiosas) de Al-Ghazali, y 6 de otras fuentes. Estos se publicaron en cinco partes en el vol. V de Expository Times (1893-4). Michael Asin y Palacios, catedrático de árabe de la Universidad de Madrid, ha publicado un trabajo en dos partes titulado "Logia et Agrapha nomini Jesu apud Moslemicos Scriptores, asceticos praesertim, usitata", que contiene 233 pasajes. 71 de los cuales provienen de Ihya Ulum ad Din (Revivificación de las ciencias religiosas) de Al-Ghazali, y 6 de otras fuentes.
