About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

It would be good for the Church, all churches, to set aside any fears and be inspired again by the words and attitude of Jesus towards women. -Enzo Bianchi

Stand up, woman, lift your head up high and stand firm; don't live crouched down.

Old tales tell of the time when every good Jew would wake up in the morning and give thanks to his god for not being a pagan, a woman, or a slave. What, then, was the role of women during Jesus' time? Virgins were prey highly coveted for marriage; and married women ruled as owners of their homes and teachers of their children, safe and protected by laws created by men.

Enzo Bianchi has carefully reviewed sacred texts to show us Jesus' actions towards female figures that crossed his path: sick, foreign women, adulteresses, women from all walks of life who received words of respect and encouragement from him. Among them we see the image of Mary Magdalene, whom history has viewed as extravagant and often perverse, but for Jesus she was an apostle, a wise and powerful woman. Jesus and Women is an honest and controversial essay that brings us closer to the living history of older times, and whose words are resonant of our times.
