In Jerrie's Jounrey, author Jerald R. Hightower offers her life story, along with poetry and short stories, to encourage and inspire others who are facing hardships of their own.
It all begins with a short memoir telling the intriguing story of how Hightower went from being a gorgeous black teenager dating older men to building a career in nursing on the West Coast.
The title refers to Jerald's experience with liver and kidney failure-and how, after five years on the transplant lists in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, and her current home of San Francisco, California, her prayers were finally answered. Thanks to the glory of God (and her medical "Dream Team"), she survived a quintuple bypass heart surgery, as well as a liver and kidney transplant.
After her miraculous recovery, Hightower went on to earn an AA at the age of seventy-six and become a Baptist minister. She now preaches the Gospel on her own radio show.
Also included is a collection of Hightower's poems and stories, through which you will gain further insight into her struggles, her dreams, her keen observations, and her blessed journey with the Lord Jesus Christ.
About the Author: Jerald Hightower is a strong woman of color who grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, during the era of Jim Crow segregation.
Married before graduating from high school, she left her abusive husband at the age of twenty-seven and became a single mother with three sons. She headed to California and eventually settled in San Francisco, where she worked waitressing jobs before becoming a nurse's aide and then a licensed vocational nurse. This led to a thirty-year career with Kaiser Permanente.
After her health began to fail, her prayers were answered when she underwent a triple-bypass heart surgery, followed by a liver and kidney transplant.
At the age of seventy-six, she received her AA and became a Baptist minister. Now, she has eight grandchildren and preaches the Gospel on her own radio show on KEST in San Francisco.
She shares her journey through poetry and stories in Walking Living Miracle.
