About the Book

Shaykh Ibrahima Faal (1855-1930) is the path that leads to Muridism. A life devoted to illuminating the way, Shaykh Ibrahima Faal was striking for his original practice, his total devotion and his allegiance to the Master. At the core of Shaykh Ibrahima Faal is an in depth understanding of the Quran, Arabic and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). This book was written between 1888 -1895 in Gandiol located in the region of St. Louis, Senegal. St. Louis was the French governmental capitol for the West Africa region, as well as a spiritual meeting point for the most prominent Islamic scholars. Jazbul Murid was written as guidance to the Muslims but also as a response to the critics of Shaykh Ibrahima Faal's perceptions of Islam. Perceptions of Islam unknown by the Islamic scholars at that time. Jazbul Murid can be considered a compass to show the path to the Muslims and to enlighten the skeptic about the meaning and the practice of Islam as conceived by Shaykh Ibrahima Faal who was determined to spread the message as far as possible.Shaykh Ibrahima Faal took to the pen and wrote a book clarifying Shaykh Ahmadu Bamba's teachings. Thus demonstrating his perfect understanding of Islam. In this book, Shaykh Ibrahima Faal uses the Arabic language with dexterity, and shows his ability to use the divine text of the Quran to illustrate his message. This book is an exhortation to righteousness for all Muslims and to the Murids in particular. "If this book is not from Allah, it is from those who advise righteousness". Shaykh Ibrahima FaalBaay Demba Sow translated this book written by Shaykh Ibrahima Faal to make it accessible to a wider audience and being faithful to his teachings, in the way we should interact with people in general, Muslims, believers and our loved ones in particular: "Open the gate of your house when they knock and welcome them in. If they get into discussion with you, then give them good advice, which will benefit every Muslim and believer. Giving good advice to people is much more valuable than a drop of blood shed for the cause of Islam." Shaykh Ibrahima Faal
