About the Book

Jake Payne placed his Journal carefully in the cavity he created in the stone wall of the house. It was 1869 and the Journal contains the story of the murder of Jake's father and of Jake's escape from St. Louis when the same greedy scoundrel sent two felons after him. It also contains the compass points to find the stash of gold ingots Jake and his sidekick, Nick, placed there. They had become incredibly rich from their discovery of Nevada gold. They never went back. In 2008, David Pullman lost his job. Then he crashed his Harley, putting him in the hospital. RaeNell Pullman, David's wife and a direct descendant of Jake Payne, could not pay the mortgage. They were not alone. Tragedy loomed for friends and relatives alike in the Great Recession, but for the Pullman family and the Jeff Payne family the Crash made all the difference. Since his childhood, Jeff had been told the story of Nick and Jake and their Rattlesnake Point Bank. A story told for generations, David thought it was a myth. The Great Recession led RaeNell and Jeff to discover they are connected through their adventurous ancestors and that incredible story. The second Journal kept by Jake Payne came into the hands of RaeNell Pullman from her Grandfather. He told the story of the bank again. "Granddaddy, I'll climb the ladder to the attic." RaeNell dusted off the old leather-bound Journal. In an almost surrealistic manner, Jeff Payne, directly descended from Nate Payne, tracked down RaeNell and made the trip from Durango, Colorado to Waukesha, Wisconsin. The life threatening adventures that followed caused a miraculous discovery, the consequences of which were staggering. The benefits and gifts go on.
About the Author: My progenitor, James Allen, came from England in 1637 and settled in Medfield, Massachusetts. The need to leave led to a life of adventure. A visit showed that the Allen family still had property there. My relatives are spread across America today, some having made significant contributions to our history. Retired now and having always had an interest in writing, I have the wonderful opportunity of writing stories full-time. Stories with roots in the bow and arrow hunts of the wily Javelina and later the majestic Elk of the Southwest provides an understanding of the beauty and dangers our Indian neighbors faced. Descending into the depths of a Nevada gold mine showed how a vein of gold can lead to riches or death. The thirst for that shiny metal continues today. There are many Western background scenes in the books and stories I have written so far and my wish is that you find enjoyment as you read them. They are full of action and intrigue based around historical settings and events.
