Traditional Christian theology teaches that Jesus came to make us worthy. But what if we were already worthy, and all Jesus did was help us understand our own worth? In a sense, Jesus is not the only child of God-we all are.
This is just one of the many fascinating and controversial views expressed in It's a New Day!, Francis William Bessler's collection of essays, letters, songs, and poems that touches on nearly everything on God's green earth. Many of Bessler's views are inspired by the apocryphal gospels of Thomas and Mary Magdalene, which paint Christ in a different light than the oft-cited gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
In tightly written letters and essays, Bessler shares his thoughts on politics, his relationships with family members, and how his faith has shaped his outlook on life. Beautiful songs and poems express Bessler's beliefs where the essays cannot, further illuminating God's grace. At the center of these writings is the belief that God is not an entity that exists wholly outside of us-rather, he lives inside us all. We are God, and God is us-to find salvation, we need only look within.
About the Author: Francis William Bessler was born the seventh of eight children, and he was raised Roman Catholic on a small farm outside Powell, Wyoming.
Bessler spent six years studying for the Catholic ministry at Saint Lawrence Seminary in Mount Calvary, Wisconsin, and Saint Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado. He left the seminary once it became clear his views were not compatible with the church's traditional teachings. Still, Bessler insists that faith must be subject to understanding.
