Hierzu werden kurz die terminologischen Grundlagen geklärt. Im Anschluss wird die Bedeutung von Bildung, Erziehung und Schule in Bezug auf die Erziehung nach Auschwitz behandelt und abschließend werden Gründe für und gegen die Beschäftigung mit dem Holocaust in Grundschulen dargelegt. Das Buch "Die Tochter, die wir uns immer gewünscht haben - Die Geschichte von Martha" von Yad Vashem wird als Lektüre für eine Unterrichtseinheit vorgeschlagen. Das Werk wird entlang der Kriterien der Holocaust Education for Young Agers, angelehnt an das pädagogische Konzept der "International School for Holocaust Studies", analysiert. Theodor Adornos Text zur "Erziehung nach Auschwitz" zeigt grundlegende Fakten über das Thema auf und gibt Gründe und Ziele für eine Erziehung nach Auschwitz: Die Tatsache, dass es sich lohnt, sich mit einer Erziehung nach oder über Auschwitz zu beschäftigen, dass sich alle damit beschäftigen sollten, die etwas mit Erziehung zu tun haben sowie der Fakt, dass sich Geschichte wiederholt. Als Ziele einer Erziehung nach Auschwitz lassen sich laut Adorno zwei große Bereiche einteilen: vor allem die Erziehung während der Kindheit führt oft zur Mündigkeit der Kinder. Als zweites Ziel gilt die allgemeine Aufklärung humanistischer, philosophischer, politischer und kultureller Art für den Fakt, dass eine Wiederholung von Auschwitz unmöglich und ausgeschlossen ist. Die drei Schlüsselbegriffe nach Theodor Adornos Theorie sind Autonomie, Empathie sowie Verdinglichung und Fetischisierung. Die Autonomie ist die wichtigste pädagogische Zielsetzung und die Kraft zur Reflexion, zur Selbstbestimmung als auch zum "Nicht-Mitmachen".
