The book is primarily addressed to the engineer in the praxis, construction, operation and service as well as survey institutions. About the Author: Born 1924 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Physical-Mathematical studies at the University of Thessaloniki and at the faculty of Shipbuilding at the Technical University Danzig. Graduated in 1957 at the Technical University of Hannover, general mechanical engineering and marine engineering. Practical education in mechanical engineering and in marine engineering. Experience with steam and motor ships. Professional activities: Construction and computation engineer as well as scientific investigations (Burmeister and Wain in Copenhagen, Borsig AG, AEG Large Machine Factory and AEG Turbine Factory in Berlin. Free activities in general agencies (Daimler-Benz and Auto Union, Motoren- und Turbinen-Union, Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen, Westinghouse, Reintjes etc.) and shipping companies in Greece, in service organization, construction supervision and operation of bulk carriers, oil and product tankers, ore-oil ships, high sea-ferries, naval vessels and luxury yachts. Free co-worker of Lloyd Register of Shipping (Industrial Sector) and Allianz Versicherungs-AG (editorship "Der Maschinenschaden") with several publications in technical periodicals about damage investigations and patent applications. Professor at the Superior Technical College and at the Technical Academy in Athens with emphasis in thermodynamics and internal combustion engines as well as steam and gas turbines. At present consulting engineer in Athens.
