About the Book

Dale is a writer with 4 books published and 3 in preparation. He is also preparing some 5 paintings showing new reconstructions of all the known tyrannosaurs for an up and coming international exhibit along with a heavily illustrated book of same. His early recollections of life were growing up on a farm outside the little hamlet of La Riviere in Manitoba, Canada. For this reason he became a Nature lover. In his novel CLOCKWORK STRANGE, he recounts what life was like from the 193s to 5s living on one of these prairie farms through the eyes of some 9 children with 3 puppies. As a child Dale was fascinated by dinosaurs and deep time. The release of Karl Zemans 1955 Cesta Do Praveku movie of 4 children lost in time on their grandparents farm wherein they visit and explore ancient worlds long since dead struck a particularly personal chord with this author. Combined with his life long fascination in the palaeontology of deep time and his 1 years of professional work with some of Canadas finest museums, both in the lab and in the field ... he is primed for 8 sequential novels that will take the reader back through 4.55 billion years of our planets history, with each novel representing a distinct geological stage of time experienced through the eyes of 9 children. What is unique about the telling of the tale CLOCKWORK STRANGE is that it is based on actual towns and farm communities that once existed in the 193s and 5s. Many of these towns are now ghost towns. Many of the farms no longer exist with only overgrown grass and basement foundations giving any indication at all of their former existence as once thriving farm communities. Virtually all the characters themselves inhabiting the novel CLOCKWORK STRANGE are real characters taken from real life with their original names still intact and unchanged. Many are long deceased. As of the writing of the first novel, of the 9 children in it, only 8 are alive today. The puppies Mickey, Skipper and Towzer, their real names, were once real dogs. They were all deceased as far back as the 195s. This is a story of a North American farm community that once existed and is now gone. Only grave markers lying out in some forgotten fields and similar ghost towns denote that they ever existed. This spellbinding novel is total fiction placed upon a real template of long extinct people and towns as the author once remembered them. To some extent, the novel is an epithet to those people. It is also set up as a series to educate young children of all ages to the concept of deep time. It is experienced exclusively through the eyes of 9 children via some 8 novels as they attempt to survive a passage through deeper and deeper time. It is done as if Zeman were writing it, had he been alive today, in the 21st C, armed with our present day knowledge. For more of the authors writings and up and coming novels: dalemcinnes.com

About the Author

Born in the exact center of the North American continent in Winnipeg, Canada. Brutally cold in winter. Unrelentingly stifling in summer. Dale spent his first 9 years on a farm with a wildlife sanctuary just outside the small hamlet of La Riviere, 100 miles South of Winnipeg. As a small boy of 4, a Nature lover, he fell in love with the tales of giant dragons lying about on an escarpment overlooking the prairies barely 25 miles from the farm. It was his 1st introduction to the concept of deep time. When he was 5, Kelloggs introduced him to dinosaurs. By 6, Karel Zemans 1955 film Cesta do Praveku had set the final path for him to take into dinosaur palaeontology. At 12, from his uncles CPR train station platform, he would throw his palaeo gear onto the caboose from a passing freight train, race down the tracks and leap onto the rear railcars coupler, stash his gear and climb up on top of the caboose to get to that escarpment where the fossil marine dragons beckoned. At 19, he was already employed at some of Canadas finest museums. He was the first to join Philip Curries budding dinosaur program in 1970s Alberta. 1986 saw his last year employed effectively in museum palaeontology. He became self employed creating baby dinosaur exhibits in Calgary. He was instrumental in developing never before heard of sculpturing, moulding and casting techniques still unknown in the field of palaeontology. They surpass the HD quality of silicone rubbers and reduce the costs of building exhibits by 99%.
