Dazu werden zunächst begriffliche Grundlagen betrachtet, welche sich in soziale Netzwerke selbst und deren Nutzung zur internetbasierten Bewerberüberprüfung unterteilen. Im Anschluss daran liegt der Fokus auf der organisationalen Sicht auf das Thema, indem dessen Chancen sowie Risiken näher erläutert werden. Zuletzt folgt ein Fazit, welches neben Implikationen und Handlungsempfehlungen auch Limitationen der Studien aufzeigt. Die Digitalisierung ist mittlerweile zu einem zentralen Thema unserer Zeit geworden und dominiert zunehmend Wirtschaft, Medien und Öffentlichkeit. Fortschritte in der Technologie haben neue Kommunikationsmittel geschaffen, die mittlerweile in weitestgehend jeden Lebensbereich integriert werden können. Facebook oder MySpace begannen ursprünglich als Foren für Studenten und haben sich mittlerweile zu einer Gemeinschaft für den sozialen und kommerziellen Austausch entwickelt. Mit der aufkommenden Popularität solcher sozialen Netzwerke entstand damit ein enormer Handlungsbedarf für jegliche Unternehmensbranchen, die sich damit vor einigen Jahren auf dem Höhepunkt einer großen Praxisverschiebung befanden. Folglich sind soziale Netzwerke mittlerweile auch Teil diverser Personalfunktionen und -prozesse geworden. Sie bieten eine besonders hohe Transparenz für den Arbeitsmarkt, welche nicht nur die Kontaktaufnahme mit potenziellen Bewerbern, sondern auch eine gezielte und leichte Zugänglichkeit von Informationen für den Entscheidungsprozess ermöglicht.
