Die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Integration im Kontext Schule und Bildung führte mich zur Beleuchtung der Interkulturellen Kompetenz der PädagogInnen. Im Rückblick muss ich feststellen, dass wenige Auseinandersetzungen mit einem Thema eigene Denkweisen, Haltungen und Einstellungen so verändert und geprägt haben wie dieses. Macks Zitat: "Der Riss, der die Gesellschaft in oben und unten teilt, in Integrierte und Ausgegrenzte, verläuft durch die Schule" drückt die Folgenden Ausführungen treffend aus. Durch ein Schulsozialarbeitspraktikum an einer Gesamtoberschule in Berlin Wedding wurde die Aufmerksamkeit auf Schwierigkeiten von Jugendlichen nicht deutscher Herkunft im Zusammenhang mit Haltungen und interkulturellen Kompetenzen der Lehrer und Lehrerinnen geweckt. An der besagten Schule liegt eine Quote von SchülerInnen nicht deutscher Herkunft von über 70% vor. Die Frage danach, was denn grundsätzlich "schief läuft" an den Schulen, oder an der Schule, stellte sich häufig, vor allem wegen der offensichtlichen Frustration auf allen Seiten der an der Schule agierenden Individuen. Als Kernbereiche für eine erfolgreiche Integration, nennt die ehemalige Ausländerbeauftragte Frau Dr. John, 1. Teilhabe am Arbeitsmarkt und 2. Erfolg im Bildungssystem. Das Scheitern dieser Kernbereiche der Integration bezieht sie auf die mangelnde Anpassung der LehrerInnenausbildung sowie der Schulorganisation an sich. Sie räumt weiter ein, dass es an "Andockstellen" für Zuwanderer in unserem System mangelt. Dies sind neben den eben genannten Aspekten auch mangelnde Kontakte mit der Mehrheitsgesellschaft.
