Inhaltsangabe: Gang der Untersuchung: Information Retrieval befaßt sich mit der Erschließung, Speicherung und Wiedergewinnung von Information. Die Inhalte des Information Retrieval werden anhand von Online-Datenbanken erklärt und in bezug auf Bewertungsmöglichkeiten von Retrievalsystemen vertieft. Den erläuterten Inhalten des Information Retrieval entsprechend werden zwei Dienste des Internet untersucht: die Wide Area Information Server (WAIS) und das World Wide Web (WWW). Die Darstellung von WAIS geht besonders auf das Retrievalsystem WAIS und die Nutzung (und Verfügbarkeit) von WAIS Datenbanken im Internet ein. Das Gewicht der Untersuchung des WWW konzentriert sich auf die verschiedenen Retrievalhilfen, welche im Kontext der Hypertextumgebung des WWW erläutert werden. Der Unterschied zwischen Suchen und Navigieren wird am Beispiel der beiden Dienste herausgearbeitet. Konkrete Suchanfragen werden abschließend in beiden Diensten mit den entsprechenden Clients durchgeführt.
