Dieses Zitat stammt von der wohl bekanntesten weiblichen Führungskraft in Deutschland: Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel. Ja, sie hat etwas zu sagen, denn sie ist eines der besten Beispiele, dass Frauen gewiss dazu in der Lage sind, die Führung zu übernehmen. Auf politischer Ebene, ist die Gleichberechtigung von Mann und Frau seit 64 Jahren im Grundgesetz in Artikel drei verankert. Seit dem Allgemeinen Gleichbehandlungsgesetz (AGG), welches am 14.08.2006 verabschiedet wurde, ist geschlechtsbezogene Benachteiligung verboten. Deutschland zählt zu den modernsten Ländern der Welt. Frauen können studieren, sie haben Wahlrecht, können politisch aktiv sein und über ihren persönlichen Lebensweg selbst entscheiden. Auch dem beruflichen Werdegang steht formal nichts entgegen. Nie waren so viele Frauen so hoch qualifiziert wie heute und haben dadurch beste Chancen, beruflich erfolgreich zu sein. Trotzdem sind Frauen in Führungspositionen bisweilen noch keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Die Anzahl der Frauen in der ersten Führungsebene stieg von 17,6 Prozent in 1996 auf 24,2 Prozent in 2010. In der zweiten Führungsebene stieg der Anteil von 23,8 Prozent auf 28,8 Prozent. Auch wenn die Anzahl der weiblichen Führungskräfte insgesamt gestiegen ist, liegt die Unternehmensleitung immer noch fest in Männerhand. "Es ist ganz deutlich zu beobachten, dass der Frauenanteil in Führungspositionen mit der Größe des Unternehmens und mit aufsteigender Hierarchie-Ebene abnimmt. Kaum eine Frau ist im Vorstand deutscher DAX-Unternehmen anzutreffen". Durch den demografischen Wandel werden qualifizierte Arbeitskräfte für einen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung fehlen.
