Darauf aufbauend erfolgt eine qualitative Lehrerbefragung zu Konzepten des individualisierten Lernens an beruflichen Schulen in Hamburg., Abstract: Lerngruppen sind während der letzten Jahrzehnte in sämtlichen Schulformen immer heterogener geworden. In dieser Feststellung decken sich die Alltagserfahrungen von Lehrern mit den Ergebnissen bildungssoziologischer Studien. Die Ursache dafür sind gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen: Infolge von Globalisierung, internationaler Migration, Pluralisierung familiärer Lebensformen und gesellschaftlicher Individualisierungstendenzen werden traditionelle Lebenszusammenhänge weitgehend aufgelöst und durch sehr vielfältige Lebensweisen ersetzt. Soziokulturelle Heterogenität zeichnet unsere Gesellschaft aus: "Man lebt als Einzelkind oder mit Geschwistern, mit arbeitslosen oder beruflich völlig überlasteten Eltern, mit der deutschen, der russischen, der türkischen Familiensprache, in Armut oder im Überfluss, behütet oder verwahrlost." Entsprechend groß sind die Unterschiede in den Lernhaltungen, Kompetenzen, Erwartungen und Interessen der Schüler einer Klasse. Dieser Heterogenität muss Schulunterricht pädagogisch produktiv begegnen. Das gilt insbesondere für die berufliche Bildung. Wie keine andere Schulform des deutschen Bildungssystems sind berufsbildende Schulen durch eine markante Heterogenität in der Vorbildung ihrer Schüler geprägt.
