El año es 1982, durante el Proceso Militar en la Argentina, y la guerra con Gran Bretaña sobre las Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands) está a punto de estallar. Alicia Rivera, una joven periodista que lleva una vida profesional sin mayores altibajos en Bariloche, un centro turístico de la Patagonia, es detenida en la ruta al Llao-Llao y amenazada por misteriosos hombres que viajen en un Falcon verde oliva. El alarmante suceso se complica cuando poco después, Susana Machevsky, colega y amiga de la infancia a quien Alicia quiere como a una hermana y ha venido de visita por unos días, es secuestrada a su regreso a Buenos Aires. Ansiosa por averiguar su paradero, Alicia se embarca en una peligrosa odisea, seguida por la sombra de un hombre con aparente influencia en los círculos de las fuerzas de seguridad que operan libremente en esa época. En la desesperada búsqueda no solo encuentra el rastro de su amiga, sino que tiene oportunidad de comprobar detalles de cómo los diversos sectores de la sociedad argentina viven el proceso militar de facto. Algunos sacando ventajas de la situación, otros tomándola con indiferencia, y por fin otros trabajando en forma no violenta y en silencio para ayudar a las víctimas. Así entra en diálogo con su propia familia, amigos, diversos sectores de una Iglesia Católica dividida, y también con un inescrupuloso representante de unas fuerzas de seguridad poderosas y ocultas. Paso a paso Alicia va descubriendo la impotencia de su propia situación como miembro de una clase media mayoritaria, víctima de dos sectores extremos que ejercen con impunidad la violencia en su país. Cuando su misterioso "contacto" reclama un alto precio por ayudarla a encontrar a su amiga, ella toma una decisión transformadora. La experiencia cambia su vida y la lleva a un dramático enfrentamiento final.
About the Author: Isabel García Cintas es una periodista y escritora argentina. Nació en la ciudad de Córdoba, y estudió periodismo y laboratorio fotográfico en Buenos Aires. Después de vivir tres años en Melbourne, Australia, regresó a la Argentina y se radicó en la ciudad patagónica de San Carlos de Bariloche, donde nació su hija. Allí escribió durante casi una década para el semanario El Diario de Bariloche, dirigido por Carlos Fontanarrosa. Hizo contribuciones para el matutino regional Río Negro y también para LRA30, Radio Nacional Bariloche. Participó activamente en la creación de dos entidades hoy desaparecidas de esa ciudad turística, Acción Promotora, la que reunió a los artesanos y pequeños comerciantes locales, y la Asociación Contra la Violencia a la Mujer, que logró importantes cambios en el tratamiento y asistencia a las víctimas de violencia doméstica. En 1982 co-fundó, junto con otros fotógrafos, el Fotoclub Bariloche, institución que hoy pertenece a la Municipalidad local. En 1987 se radicó en el estado de Ohio, en la zona de los grandes lagos, y en 2001 dejó el frío del norte por las cálidas playas del Sur de la Florida, donde hoy reside con su esposo. Participó de cursos y talleres literarios en inglés en UCLA, y durante varios años tomó clases y talleres en inglés y en castellano en Miami Dade College. Además de diversos artículos periodísticos, ha escrito y publicado dos libros: Incidente en la Patagonia en 2006, una novela de suspenso en inglés que luego tradujo al castellano. En Del Mediterráneo al Plata, escrita en castellano entre 2009 y 2011, narra en forma novelada las memorias de la experiencia inmigratoria de sus antepasados italianos y españoles a la Argentina. Ambos libros en versión Kindle están a la venta en Amazon.
