La Campaña Militar de Aguadulce en el istmo de Panamá, fue un prolongado enfrentamiento armado dentro del fratricidio de la Guerra de los Mil Días entre fuerzas liberales y conservadoras colombianas. Los sangrientos combates comenzaron el 23 de febrero de 1901 y terminaron con una aplastante victoria por parte del ejército liberal dirigido por el general Benjamín Herrera, sobre el ejército conservador apostado en la ciudad de Aguadulce bajo las órdenes del general Francisco Castro.El grave error estratégico de trasladar la guerra a Panamá por parte de liberales rebeldes y de conservadores aferrados a ideales políticos retardatarios, se suscitó después de los sangrientos combates de Peralonso y Palonegro en el departamento de Santander, en los que además de perder a lo mejor de la juventud colombiana en los campos de batalla y retrasar el desarrollo armónico de la infraestructura socio-económica, lo sucedido hasta ese momento solo servía para insuflar los egos de los jefes de ambos bandos, que osaban de estrategas de guerra y avezados dirigentes políticos reformistas.Debido a la ebullición geopolítica mundial del momento en que Estados Unidos controlaba la línea del ferrocarril de Panamá que unía los puertos de Ciudad de Panamá al Occidente con el de Colón al Oriente del departamento, a que la compañía francesa había renunciado a la construcción del canal, a que había marcados intereses geopolíticos de otras potencias por asumir la gigantesca obra de ingeniería, a que en Colombia el vicepresidente José Manuel Marroquín había depuesto al titular Sanclemente, a que no había un ejército profesional y proliferaban caudillos regionales, y que en Estados Unidos estaba tomando fuerza la idea de promover la traidora separación del departamento de Panamá de la República de Colombia, y de paso convertirlo en una nueva república independiente de Colombia, pero por muchos años dependiente de Washington.Una vez más salió a flote la miopía geopolítica de los egocéntricos dirigentes colombianos, herederos del santanderismo parroquial que 70 años antes desmembró la república de Colombia creada por el Libertador Simón Bolívar, y la dividió en Venezuela, Ecuador y Colombia. Que la depredadora guerra civil de los mil días se trasladara al istmo de Panamá, era el mayor deseo del gobierno estadounidense. Y los "estrategas dirigentes colombianos" de ambas colectividades, autonombrados coroneles y generales, satisficieron el apetito voraz del secretario de Estado John Hay y de los presidentes Mckinley y Theodore Roosevelt.
