About the Book

PROLOGUE: Nestled between a dozen longshoremen working on Dock B, Junior Patrone was the only one that heard the distant blast coming from the ocean. A few minutes past four on a humid summer morning in 1946, an unmarked German U-boat awaits patiently in oil slick waters two miles off the coast of New York City. Within the hour, the first of three merchant ships carrying supplies overseas will be sent to a watery grave; her mechanical guts ripped out by a single torpedo ingested by her hull. During a secret meeting (Sub-Rosa) in Berlin, several irrational plans are cast aside until a young zealous Gestapo officer convinces a defeated Third Reich that his plan is infallible. Shortly after Germany surrender, Russian sources advise US intelligence that a plan which had been put into play shortly before the end of the war targeting a specific location on the Eastern Seaboard was imminent. At the time the United States lacked the electronic technology of modern day tracking devices. There was however, an isolated radar installation in its infancy atop a mountainous plateau overlooking the Hudson Valley, sixty five miles north of New York City. Once operational, the installations purpose was to warn against possible air strikes. After infiltrating an alpine colony in the Catskills, the Nazi mastermind makes contact with a group of German-Americans sympathizers obsessed with the idea of vindicating the Vaterland. Thirty years before 911, a plan was conceived involving a single WMD. If successful, it would have show the world how vulnerable the United States was. Concealed from the rest of the world for three decades, entrenched within the governing body of the Port of New York, the mastermind behind an unknown conspiracy is resurrected along with several resettled co-conspirators, deep-rooted within a small town police department in Westchester County, New York. After arresting an organized crime member in the 1970's, an arrogant hard-nosed controversial small town beat cop stumbles into a hidden world of past gun-runners, modern day corruption, and murder.
About the Author: R.M. DeSanti attended the school of Art and Design in mid-town Manhattan in the early 1960's. After a four year hitch in the US Navy, and a tour of Vietnam aboard a minesweeper, he pursued a career in advertising. A short time later, a calling led him to law enforcement. During his career as a Police Officer he received several life saving commendations. One commendation was awarded after an arrest led to the breakup of a large Gypsy burglary ring working across a Tri-State area. Officer DeSanti was also started the first Crime Prevention Unit in Westchester County New York. After retiring from the Police Department in 1981, he traveled extensively throughout the United States in an RV with his wife Annie, residing in New Zealand for a few years. Along with several creative writing courses, he's earned an AA in Criminology. To his credits, he's had numerous articles published in "Adventures in the Smokey's", including several articles in RV related publications. IN THE COMPANY OF ARROGANCE is an adventure novel. It uncovers a secret plan from a defeated Germany at the end of World War Two. Gerbel Long, a young ex-Gestapo Lieutenant infiltrates the governing body of a small town in upstate New York resurrecting German-American cells that are dedicated to the vindication of the Father Land. Ultimately Long blackmails a part time resident of the small hamlet who happens to be the police chief of a village ninety miles to the south. A specially constructed German bomber is smuggled into New Jersey to be re-assembled on an isolated runway along the coast. Its mission is to fly up the Hudson River and drop a fifty-five gallon drum of an experimental substance into the New York City water supply. With a last minute touch of patriotism, a blackmailed Joseph Helinski attempts to foil the conspiracy. A rookie police officer from Lanchester Commons in the 1970's, stumbles upon descendants of the conspiracy that involves high ranking officials within the Civil Service Community. The story touches upon the lives of the participant's, past and present. It exemplifies the magnitude of greed and how it can corrupt the innocent. There is more then one protagonist in this story. Neither are above suspicion as evil prevails a chronicle of events IN THE COMPANY OF ARROGANCE.
