About the Book

This book examines safety management and current practices to demonstrate a better way than current approaches and how safety can be improved further from an overall strategic approach. This book shows in a practical way step by step exactly how any professional or manager can improve safety performance and increase profits. It is hoped that through this approach that many other serious injuries and incidents are prevented creating a better society and saving the lives and indeed, livelihoods of many more workers. There are many practical ideas and approaches in this book that when applied in an organisation can not only improve safety performance but the profitability of the organisation at the same time. Often safety is seen as a cost that does not help the 'bottom line' or profitability, however, this book will prove the opposite. This book is a very practical hands on guide that will help professionals and organisations to achieve these perceived opposing goals.
About the Author: Clifford Verhagen has a very strong background in OHS and Workers Compensation with over 20 years of experience in making a difference. He has proven that he can drive change and improvement in a wide range of organisations achieving measurable business performance. This has been achieved through a holistic, integrated safety approach, right through from Health and Wellbeing to Safety to Injury Management to Workers Compensation. Cliff has worked in Government (WorkSafe Victoria as the General Manager of Prevention), large multinationals and not-for-profits in England, United States, Malaysia, Vietnam, New Zealand and throughout Australia. Cliff has helped to save millions of dollars in direct workers compensation costs and indirect costs in the organisations he has worked for. Such direct results have been achieved through introducing contemporary safety initiatives to world's best practice. Not only financial benefits but significant cultural change to reduce significant injuries by up to 80% in one organisation. Cliff has a Doctorate from Monash University, Australia, in Safety and Knowledge Management. As well as qualifications in engineering, finance and health giving him a very all rounded skill set to drive any organisation to the next level. He is currently working as an OHS Consultant and Advisor for two organisations in Australia. Outside of his professional career Cliff enjoys the gym, studying history and science and has travelled to many countries and wonders whilst developing Buddhist principles.
