"The desire to make a favorable impression on others is universal. In one way or another, we all do things to attempt to control how other people see us, often attempting to get them to think of us in the best light possible." Diese Definition stammt von Greenberg (2003). Baron (1989) definiert Impression Management wie folgt: "This term refers to a process by which individuals change or manage several aspects of their behavior in order to create a positive impression on other." Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es darzustellen, wann und warum Individuen Impression Management betreiben und wie sie dabei vorgehen. Im Speziellen richtet diese Arbeit ihren Schwerpunkt auf das Impression Management im Rahmen des Einstellungsgespräches. Dabei lässt sich nicht nur auf Seiten des Bewerbers, sondern auch auf Seiten des Interviewers, der das Unternehmen vertritt, der Einsatz von Selbstdarstellungsverhalten nachweisen. Impression Management wird heutzutage nicht mehr als böswilliges, ausmanövrierendes Verhalten angesehen, sondern als rudimentärer Bestandteil aller sozialen Interaktionen, vor allem im Berufsleben. Den Anfang der Arbeit gestaltet die Abgrenzung der Begriffe Personalauswahl und Personalbeschaffung, da das Verständnis der Unterschiedlichkeit dieser beiden Begriffe notwendig ist, um die weiteren Ausführungen nachvollziehen zu können. Im zweiten Kapitel werde ich auf die Impression Management Theory im Näheren eingehen und dabei ihren Ursprung, ihre Entwicklung und ihre verschiedenen Techniken behandeln. Die unterschiedlichen Impression Management Techniken stellen einen fundamentalen Bestandteil dieser Arbeit dar, da sie einerseits die Möglichkeiten Selbstdarstellungsverhalten zu praktizieren kategorisieren, andererseits als Ausgangspunkt für das Verhalten im Rahmen
