"Importance of Tough Love on Children" comes from personal experience and research. In this book, I have gathered extensive research on different parenting styles with instances where I have provided examples from my own life, my children's, and my children's friends; you will find stories that showcase the effects of various parenting styles on children.

My own experience as a child and as a mother made me write the book --- a child of the East and a mother to my children in the West, I have tried to compare the two worlds in this book. During my childhood, I realised how a parent's specific parenting style impacts their children's lives.

My childhood and teenage years saw my mother and me struggling. However, suffering from my mother's lack of affection during my early childhood is not all that drove me to pick up the pen and address the issues in parenting. My parenthood journey as a single parent is also one of the reasons. In fact, it may be the top reason that urged me to research different parenting styles, techniques, and strategies.

How we parent our kids definitely shapes their personalities while defining their mental health. It is true that the mother's role in a child's upbringing is significant to the family and society at large. Therefore, I went on to conduct my own research so I could be the best version of myself as a parent.

To give you an insight: I was raised in a large family setting, even according to Eastern standards. I am one of my parent's nine children, which might have made it difficult for my parents to balance their care and love.

My mother was a typical homemaker with no tertiary education. She firmly believed in raising children using an authoritative parenting style. Most probably, her parenting techniques were the only ones she knew, as was the case with most Eastern mothers.

Noticeably, my mother treated all her children differently in regard to love, care, and attention. The consequences were that I ended up wondering whether she even loved me at all. To her, her parenting style was the norm. However, it affected me on greater levels than she thought.

The good thing about my childhood was that my father's love, care, and attention helped balance the tough-love parenting style of my mother. My father was highly supportive. As both a child and teenager, I privately held a grudge against my mother because I did not like her words and actions most of the time.

Later in my youth, I began to see and understand the positive effects of my mother's parenting strategies which was balanced by my father's soft love. On top of that, I started living in a completely different society as a mother and the resilience I had built as a result of my parents parenting styles enabled me to navigate through the challenges.
In this book, I have highlighted the importance of tough love on children with slight comparison of East and West parenting styles.
