About the Book

Born an only child in the former Soviet Union and immigrating to Melbourne, Australia by accident, Susanna is sent to an Orthodox Jewish school. Raised by a Soviet military father, a fatalistic mother, and borderline personality grandmother Babushka (she of the ever-roaming eyebrow) she is mercilessly taunted by Jewish Australian Princesses and decides it's better not to get your hopes up as everything ends in death. Cursed with a black depression from childhood, but blessed with a genius sense of humor, a decade later, she becomes a comedy star in Australia. Seeking the American Dream (and to piss off her parents) she travels to NYC for fame and fortune, where she falls in love with the greatest city on earth, but finds the romance is one-sided. In the Big Apple, she samples the local circumcised fare, continues to bare her soul at both stand-up comedy venues and Conservative Temple, finally meeting and marrying the rarest of creatures, a large blond Jew.Eventually Brisk finds herself living that fabled American Dream in Malibu, the mother of 'Irish Twin' boys, but in typically self-destructive style, seeks to throw it all away by running away from home. Only when committed to a lock-down psych facility does our heroine finally learn that she may not be as crazy as she thinks she is, success can be measured in a myriad of ways, and that children are the greatest miracle as they may keep you from killing yourself.
About the Author: Susanna Brisk is an actor, writer, comic and solo performer who was born in Estonia, grew up in Australia and started writing and performing stand-up comedy at the age of 17. She has been called "heartwarming yet insanely comical" by Time Out New York, LA Splash has said "her list-making rivals George Carlin's" and former SNL cast member Cheri Oteri says of this book, "She brilliantly gets across how it's those who dare to ask the obvious questions that somehow feel the craziest." Brisk entertained U.S. troops as a comic in Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Germany, Hungary and Sarajevo. She has written and performed five one person shows in LA, New York, Melbourne and Sydney. Susanna blogs and makes movies at www.malibumom.com. More reviews for "I'll Be The Death of Me: " "Susanna is funny and talented..." Mel Brooks "Moving, very moving. Brilliant. And funny. She's amazing." Erin Wilson, Independent Spirit award winning screenwriter of "Secretary." "We all have a few crazy parts but Susanna has ALL of them so everyone will relate to her hilarious recollections of surviving weird parents, twisted lovers, borderline personality disorder and her own spankable behavior. Her voice is original: uniquely literate in her turns of phrase and wordplay... funny... insightful... shockingly blunt and searingly honest." Alan Thicke
