Questa commedia è una delle prime che ho scritto. Nel 1997 la ripescai dal mio archivio di appunti e opere amanuensi per farne una versione dattiloscritta da presentare a un concorso prestigioso di opere teatrali. Da allora ne ho scritte a decine, senza mai più ripresentarmi a concorsi di opere teatrali. Forse per mancanza di opportunità; o magari per mancanza di tempo; oppure per entrambe le ragioni; adesso non saprei dire. E' la storia di un giovane scrittore che decide di farla finita perché nessuno capisce la sua arte letteraria ed egli si sente solo e incompreso; nemmeno la moglie, di cui pure si dice innamorato, capisce a fondo la sua arte. Per una serie di interruzioni e contrattempi il drammaturgo della commedia non riesce a porre in essere il suo insano gesto. Alla fine desisterà dal porlo in essere, rinunciando perfino alla sua carriera di scrittore. Nelle prime tre scene l'opera è quasi un monologo ininterrotto (in esse, oltre al prigioniero, compare fugacemente soltanto un cameriere) dove il prigioniero espone la sua visione della vita, con le innumerevoli catene che lo avvolgono, condizionandone i movimenti e le azioni. Nelle ultime tre scene il prigioniero interagisce con sua moglie, con sua suocera e perfino con un editore (che in realtà si rivela un venditore di libri, come in effetti sono molti sedicenti editori, oggigiorno). Il contatto con queste persone riporta alla realtà il prigioniero, aiutandolo a capire meglio il mondo che lo circonda.Il messaggio vero della commedia sta forse in queste ultime tre scene, anche se io resto più attaccato alle prime tre (che forse sono quelle effettivamente più rappresentative del mio carattere testardo e solitario, oltre che della mia biografia).Una volta mi hanno chiesto se le mie opere siano o non siano autobiografiche. Un famoso scrittore, di cui non ricordo il nome in questo momento, in un'occasione in cui gli venne posta la stessa domanda, rispose che uno scrittore scrive sempre di se stesso e scrive sempre lo stesso libro; sempre, ininterrottamente, per tutta la vita. Io, anche se ho iniziato tardi a scrivere e pubblicare, ho composto tantissime commedie, numerosi romanzi e qualche volume di poesie in versi liberi. Ho composto inoltre la Bibbia in versi, quasi interamente pubblicata in sette volumi, sotto il titolo di "Il Poema della Creazione" (all'inizio con il titolo "I Canti della Creazione"). Alla domanda non saprei cosa rispondere, anche se sono abbastanza d'accordo con quel grande scrittore: un uomo, nelle sue opere, replica se stesso, continuamente e ininterrottamente. La commedia "Il Prigioniero" è presente nel secondo volume della collana "Tutte le commedie", insieme ad altri quattro titoli della mia produzione drammaturgica (Il Timbro Tondo, la Gita, Videtur Ergo Sum e Un amore Garibaldino, tutti disponibili anche singolarmente su Amazon") ed è disponibile anche in Paperback nel catalogo di Amazon.
