"Who am I?" and "What am I here for?" have been staple philosophical questions asked in the human experience.

In recent years, the concept of "identity" has emerged with newfound importance in the American imagination. Identity has become a major theme in social & cultural discourse, academia and individual pursuit. For some, the word identity has become a trigger word and tainted as identity politics have dominated the American political process for several years now.

For others, there's a genuine desire to understand who they are, what variables affect that, and how to truly belong in our cultural moment. In other instances, we talk about identity as if it is a small thing or a casual concept and yet our identity is anything but insignificant. It turns out that Jesus himself was passionate about identity.

When we're able to take the question of "Who am I?" to the One who actually made us, we end up with a blueprint of our design, we get insight into our innermost parts, and instructions for our purpose.

In a time where there's a widespread sense of lostness, loneliness, isolation and an overall lack of meaning, the questions of who we are (identity) and what we're made for are perhaps two of the most pressing and necessary questions for our cultural moment.

The Biblical worldview has always had answers for these big and beautiful questions. There may be no more important of a time than now to recapture the power and the necessity of understanding who we are in Christ -- our true identity. The narrative arc of Scripture has much to say and to demonstrate about our tremendous worth, value and purpose from God's perspective.

This book is about redeeming these theological truths from their cultural confines with the hope to move them back to front and center where God's truths about all of reality belong.

It's a call to recapture the beauty and the power of knowing ourselves deeply so that we can know and love God more deeply. The follower of Jesus is invited to go on a journey to become more like Jesus and in doing so, to discover the truest version of themselves, which implies that we can't stay stuck where we're at. This book asks the question, "How do we actually change?" from a Biblical perspective.

Not all will go on this journey towards self-discovery in relationship to Christ, but those who do will have a much richer taste of what Jesus meant when he said: "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10
