About the Book

Der schlesische Dichter Daniel Casper von Lohenstein (1635-1683) gehört neben Gryphius zu den bedeutendsten Autoren des deutschen Barock. Der Anwalt, Gesandte und Kaiserliche Rat verfasste zahlreiche kunstvolle Tragödien, deren scharfsinnige Rhetorik und 'moderner' Blick auf Bereiche wie Politik oder Sexualität auch den heutigen Leser noch faszinieren.

Lohensteins Hauptwerk, das seinen Autor bis weit ins 18. Jahrhundert hinein berühmt machte, ist der monumentale, postum erschienene Roman Arminius, ein Schlüsselroman über die politische Situation im Deutschen Reich nach dem Drei�igjährigen Krieg und zugleich eine Enzyklopädie in Romanform. Die literarische Verarbeitung einer Fülle von Gelehrsamkeit und Wissen, welche die Werke Lohensteins auszeichnet, macht die Ausgabe für ganz verschiedene Disziplinen interessant.

Einzeln ediert wurden bislang nur die Dramen (1953ff.) und die Gedichte (1992). Bei dem Berliner Editionsprojekt handelt es sich um die erste historisch-kritische, umfassend kommentierte Gesamtausgabe. Die Edition wird neben den literarischen Werken auch Briefe, amtliche Schriften, Lebensdokumente und Quellen zur Wirkungsgeschichte Lohensteins bieten.

Die Kommentarbände enthalten detaillierte Informationen zur Stoffgeschichte, zu den Quellen, zu Realien und intertextuellen Bezügen, einen exakten Fundstellennachweis, eine umfassende Bibliographie der Forschungsliteratur sowie ein Namenregister.

Damit legen die Herausgeber die künftig ma�gebliche Ausgabe des bedeutenden Barockdichters vor und machen Lohenstein erstmals mit seinem Gesamtwerk für die Forschung zugänglich.

Die Ausgabe wird an der Freien Universität Berlin betreut. Wolfgang Neuber ist Professor für Mittlere Deutsche Literatur, Lothar Mundt ist Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Thomas Rahn Wissenschaftlicher Assistent am Institut für Deutsche und Niederländische Philologie.

Die Ausgabe ist auf insgesamt 27 Bände angelegt und in sechs Abteilungen gegliedert.
