About the Book

This is the story of Abdul Bari, a native villager in Punjab, who travelled to America to return a wristwatch he snatched in childhood.

Just like any other coastal city, the sun hardly agrees to set in Karachi. As the evening starts, all birds fly towards their shelters in a group forming a V shape. They travel in such a shape to conserve their physical energy because they feel minimum resistance from the wind when they fly together in a V shape.
Often, a bird would not make it to join her flock because she was too busy doing some "important work." She decides to chase her friends. Ever heard the sound of a lonely bird flying in the evening? I have heard! That's not a voice; that's the song of pain. Perhaps she is shouting at her comrades from a distance in a pleading voice, "Stop! I am almost there, gals." But time, tide, and birds' flock wait for none. Each bird has to join the flock going to her destination at a precise time. If someone misses the opportunity, a never-ending chase for friends starts. That bird feels as desperate as an author on lesbian dating apps.
Eventually, a time comes when the bird decides to stop chasing her people and fly solo. The difference between a person chasing people and a person walking alone is the first one would be shouting and complaining while the second one would be calm and full of gratitude. Indeed, when we start walking alone, initial moments are full of doubts, fear and uncertainties. We often hear the painful voice of the bird flying to chase her flock in the evening, revealing vulnerability, loneliness, the harshness of wind, exhaustion of the day, and fear of being killed in the dark. But then, slowly, the bird realizes she should fly solo. So she becomes calm. As the journey progresses, the lone flying bird's wings become strong, and her morale very high; and she becomes obsessed with opposing the wind resistance. Loving the new obsession, she often thinks, "Why didn't I do this before? Why have I been following someone else to this day?"
So she flies, solo, silent, enjoying her journey. She doesn't give a fuck anymore. She probably realizes that give a fuck is no more than a waste of energy that she could utilize in a hundred different productive ways. As she flies further, a stage comes where she's not alone anymore. Along the way, many birds secretly begin to follow her. They all fly in the shape of a V to save their energy. And so a new flock of birds is created, led by the LOSERESS one. Instead of giving up, she created a new flock, benefiting other birds too. Well, that's the happy end; that's the story. Like a good leader, she lets others lead too.
Precisely like the flock's leaderess, many people turn so solid and brave after being exposed to failures, rejections and harsh situations for years that they are compelled to create a new way, benefiting other people too.
But why do such people have to endure hardships before they become leaders? Couldn't they make the right decision at the right time? What were they up to when they missed the opportunity that came in their way in the first place? What is the first condition of becoming a leaderess? A lot of prior rejections and failures? What is that "important work" they were focusing on before realizing it's too late to join the flock?
Among birds, the possible "important work" could be a try for better sustenance. What is that "important work" among humans that make them so overwhelmed that they miss their boat? In my opinion, that "important work" is LOVE.
This story covers the life of a man who had to travel to his destination alone because he was too busy in love to realize the boat sailed away. He lived in a desert.
Who was he? Will he be able to reach the destination? To know, let's read his story.
