I was inspired by my many encounters with College students who have had difficulties along their way to obtaining their degree to write this book. Many were the first in their families to attend college, so the pressure was felt by them not to fail. Though I was not the first to attend College in my family, my science teacher had placed such a fear in me that if I did not apply myself and study hard, that I may not make it through college. Since the island of St. Thomas was small, if you left to attend college, everyone knew when you started your journey and whether you successfully completed it. Therefore, if I had flunked out of college it would have been a major embarrassment for my family and me. Before I began my college experience, I prayed to God and I asked Him to be with me and to help me along the way. During those four years, I read the whole Bible three times and knew when to apply and confess His word to any situation or difficulties that I experienced. If it was not for my faith, I am not sure how I would have made it. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and made my parents and family proud. My goal is to encourage all students to believe in themselves and to know that, with God on your side you can make it. Hard times may come but, like His word says, "Many are the afflictions of the Righteous, but the Lord delivers us out of them all." I have been a College Professor for more than 20 years, and I have had students who came to my office and confided in me about their struggles and difficulties that they were experiencing. They would ask me, "how did you make it all the way through to graduation day or was it not difficult for you?" I would always respond, it was easy, I took God to college with me. In this book, I have provided my experiences, scriptures, and songs to help any college student make it through any difficult situation. About the Author: About the Writer Hi, I am Lois A. Blyden, Esq., I am a College Professor, Attorney, and writer. I was born on St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands to Victorine and Edward Blyden, Sr. I am a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School and Florida A&M University where I attained her Bachelor of Science in Political Science and her Masters in Applied Social Sciences. I also received my Juris Doctorate in Law from Florida State University. Currently, I teach at Prairie View A&M University where she teaches Leadership, Ethics and Law classes. I also am an Adjunct Professor at Belhaven University and Our Lady of the Lake University in Houston Texas. I began writing poetry and songs as a young child. I would separate myself from my siblings and input entries into my note book and when I was in the fourth grade I made a promise to myself that one day I will write a formal book for all to read. I wrote this book to encourage college students of any age to remember that God will be actively with us in any situation if you invite Him to be there. He, through the Holy Spirit will guide and help you through anything. As a Professor I have talked to many students who were ready to give up on their dream of having a College degree. Many times they were the first in their family to pursue this dream. However, within the four years they encounter many problems and the dream seemed so far to reach. In my attempt to encourage them, I would always ask, "so where is God in all of this and did you pray?" They would reply, that is the same thing my Mama said. Often time they proceeded to confess that even though I grew up in a Christian home, ever since they came to College, they would forget to pray and talk to God. Therefore, It is my hope that parents who are sending their child away to college purchase this book for them. My hope is that it will encourage them and help them to maintain their Christian upbringing and stay close to God.
