PREFAZIONE (a cura di Pietro GUIDO)C'è una tradizione nei Monumenti di Milano, che sembra rifarsi alla legge della conservazione della massa, legge fisica della meccanica classica, che prende origine dal cosiddetto postulato fondamentale di Lavoisier, il seguente: Nulla si crea, nulla si distrugge, tutto si trasformaA prescindere che è stato anche adottato come motto dall'AMSA e viene riportato sui vari cestini, in questo caso è riferito al riciclo dei rifiuti solidi urbani.Nel caso dei Monumenti, si può tranquillamente concludere con l'aggiunta: "... e tutto si trasporta".Non è casuale veder "scomparire" Monumenti e ritrovarseli in tutt'altra parte. Per poi magari ritornare al posto d'origine.[i]Questi monumenti ne hanno passato di tutti i colori.Alcuni subirono il furto di parti essenziali, come il fucile e la baionetta del monumento all'Alpino di Emilio Bisi.Un altro finì nei depositi del Comune di Milano, come il monumento a Felice Cavallotti, durante il ventennio, perché libertario.Come non ricordare le Croci Votive che costituivano "altari da campo" per evitare che i fedeli entrassero in chiesa e si contagiassero durante la peste del 1576? Invece di seguire la messa in chiesa era la messa che andava sotto le finestre dei fedeli! Si tratta di una idea che potremmo mutuare nei nostri giorni per evitare gli affollamenti nelle chiese e in altri luoghi di raccolta.E che dire della terza fontana dell'Acqua Marcia che, non attingendo più alla falda 350 metri sotto il suolo milanese, ora utilizza acqua dell'acquedotto? Forse siamo rimasti affezionati a quell'esotico nome "acqua marcia".E chi non conosce a Milano la "Torta degli Sposi" di piazza Castello mentre immagino che quasi tutti i milanesi, me compreso, non hanno mai visto quell'imponente monumento a Napoleone III (il Piccolo), nascosto tra gli alberi del Parco di Milano.Francesco Barzaghi, l'autore, risulta morto, dalla lapide, in una contrada lontano da Milano, Precotto, ora diventato un rione della nostra metropoli.E, per finire, come dimenticare la storia della Croce di San Barnaba, trasferita da Piazza Cordusio all'attuale Piazza Borromei grazie all'intercessione della famiglia Borromeo che evitò la sua distruzione per l'incidente stradale provocato al Governatore austriaco nella primaria collocazione?E ciò avviene sin da tempi antichi, anche da quando Milano era capitale imperiale.Ciò è continuato sino ad arrivare ai tempi nostri.Il tutto è avvenuto per motivi urbanistici, oppure viari, i lavori della Metropolitana oppure anche vantaggi o svantaggi politici.Un tempo si abbatteva e basta, ora l'attenzione al ripristino è maggiore. Quasi sempre...Segno di una metropoli moderna, attenta al passato, ma volta al futuro.L'autore ha rintracciato, col consueto scrupolo e acume, queste storie della vecchia Milano. Ma chissà quanti altri monumenti, meno importanti, hanno bellissime storie da rievocare?[ii]
