Proprio vero, a volte ritornano. Anche dopo venticinque anni. Tanto è durato l'oblio delle cose (non oso chiamarle poesie) che ti accingi a leggere. Venticinque anni di sepoltura nel classico cassetto, durante i quali comunque ho fatto tesoro dell'esperienza poetica, riportandola nella narrativa, utilizzandola a piene mani nelle descrizioni e non solo, per dare sale alle storie che ho raccontato. Riprendere in mano manoscritti tanto datati, dopo aver soffiato via la polvere del tempo, rileggerli, è stato un vero viaggio attraverso momenti perduti, tra exploit di ispirazione autentica, irripetibile, e altri di totale ingenuità, ma anche di presunzione, rabbia, dolore, euforia tipici del periodo di crescita in bilico tra l'adolescenza e l'età adulta. Ho lasciato tutto nella sua forma originale. Anzi, lo ammetto: ho tentato di correggere qualche passo, qualche verso (ma che verso e verso? Non sono mica poesie!), ma la correzione ogni volta stonava con il contesto, quindi ho rinunciato. Durante la lettura mi sono sorpreso in un mescolanza di impressioni, immagini, paure, desideri. La scuola, gli innamoramenti, la Ragazza della Notte, la musica degli U2, dei Bauhaus, i quadri di Magritte, le poesie di García Lorca, i fumetti di Dylan Dog, l'entusiasmo incontenibile all'uscita dal cinema dopo aver visto il film dei Doors. Ma più di ogni altra cosa, giusto per uscire un attimo dal consumismo travestito da ribellione, ho rivisto le passeggiate a sera tarda per le vie di Polistena, quando il freddo costringeva tutti in casa e io ascoltavo i miei passi risuonare nel silenzio; sciarpa, cappello e un ombrello raccoglibile celato nel tascone del cappotto, pronto a essere sfoderato se necessario, che mi ricordava così tanto la spada di Connor Mac Leod. E poi, quando iniziava a piovere, quella percezione unica del solito rigagnolo di acqua fredda che scende non si sa da quale buchino nella tela dell'ombrello e va a congelarti la mano. Piccole grandi sensazioni che, a ricostruirle con tutto l'impegno che puoi, non saranno comunque più le stesse. Infine, ecco farsi strada un progetto accantonato da tempo. Meglio, un sogno, altro che progetto: la pubblicazione delle poesie (cose, volevo dire cose!) che hai tra le mani. Un sogno realizzato dopo un quarto di secolo, dopo una serie che a me sembra infinita di volti conosciuti, esperienze vissute, pagine di vita chiuse o ancora da leggere. Un sogno la cui realizzazione devo al ragazzo che sono stato. Ho scelto di ordinare le poesie (beh, ormai ci siamo capiti) in senso cronologico, senza curarmi degli argomenti trattati, per cui non ti meravigliare se troverai accostamenti improbabili, vedi ad esempio A chi Cerca la Fede seguita da Terra di Transilvania! Non amo i ringraziamenti. Mi limito a uno soltanto, alla prof delle superiori, R. Pugliese, che ha creduto in me, nelle mie modeste doti, fin dall'inizio, e forse più di chiunque altro.
