About the Book

She came with passion and high hopes, but soon she found herself isolated, deceived and homeless in a multifaceted foreign country. Being young, naive and stubborn, her dream of education was brutally and abruptly crushed. Ashamed of returning home a failure and a disgrace, Chipo navigated Berlin with the heart of a wounded lioness. She was manipulated, betrayed and abused, but her innocence proved her guilty to the crimes that later incurred, as the shadows of her dark deeds began to unravel.

I came in blind is the first part of a three-book series.

It's based on a young girl that came to Germany to study from Zimbabwe. Upon arrival, she realized her parents had been conned by a corrupt agent. She was left stranded and at the mercy of strangers. Her situation became even worse when she fell in love with a drug user who squandered the little money she had and later on threw her out of his apartment. She was stuck and helpless. Determined to survive she took everything head on that came her way. Being naive and vulnerable she was exposed to all kinds of street hustle that even hardened criminal could not withstand.

"Some more Sekt please," as she fills her glass, "my life is fucked up, I am messed up and I know that. My stepdad had been abusing me since I was 13, and every time I told my mother she didn't believe me, she thought I was jealous of her relationship, that I was angry because she had left my dad. So the abuses continued and I kept complaining until she sent me to live with my uncle for the summer holidays. I relayed everything to my uncle, at first he was very understanding, but not concerned. I liked him because he allowed me to drink whiskey and smoke, you know, do things my mum wouldn't allow me to do. He had so many friends, and we always had guests turning up in the middle of the night. It was really cool, I was having the time of my life, I did want to go back home. One day I passed out, I woke up and my uncle and his three friends were having sex with me, disguised as jokers. The next day he pretended as nothing had happened, he told me I had a terrible nightmare, that I was hallucinating and seeing things that were not there. I was confused, I did not know what to believe, I went back to my mum, I didn't say anything after 2days a piece of condom fell out while peeing, and the abused at home continued," Chipo cringed. "When I was old enough I made my move, drugs became my best friends and trust me I don't give a fuck about this life. Inside me, I am a zombie, cold, heartless." In the streets I lived, I have been gang-raped, but I feel nothing, I just put on my headphones and listen to music." Chipo was almost in tears. "I don't know what to say, I am sorry to hear that. It's just unbelievable. I mean your uncle, that didn't happen right, your stepfather, I mean your mother would have noticed it right." "Usually yes but I guess she chose not to, it was just a cursed family" Maike decried. "And so for me to forget and wipe my hands clean of the past pain, I had to separate myself. I got my tongue cut into half and it makes me feel so much better, but I am not done yet, I want more modifications."
