About the Book

To sit in nature s cathedral and look down on the creator s masterpiece is almost a spiritual experience for Lloyd Antypowich. Every year, for forty years, he took time out of his busy life and followed the call of his heart as it led him into the mountains that he loved. He revelled in their magnificence, the splendour of nature and the solitude that recharged his batteries. He sharpened his senses, as he pitted his skills against those of the animals that he stalked; animals that in their own territory are much more skilled than man, and time after time beat him in the challenge. If he got his game it was a bonus. The real success was reconnecting with nature and enjoying the peace that he found there, away from the stress and chaos of everyday life. Many dream of experiencing nature as he did, but he lived those dreams. In A Hunting We Did Go, True Mountain Adventures, the author takes you along on his journeys into the mountains. While you read, you feel like he is right there beside you, sharing his experiences with you. You feel his wonder, his awe, the excitement of the stalk, his exhaustion after a rough climb or hours in the saddle, his fear when he comes face to face with a grizzly bear, a cougar and even an unhappy moose. You will also experience his satisfaction when he outwits his prey and the effort of bringing the meat into camp. From his personal experience and firsthand knowledge of the subject and the settings, the author has woven a compelling read that shares the reality of hunting in the mountains."
About the Author: Lloyd Antypowich has gone into the mountains and hunted since he became a young man. He says "just to sit in the Cathedral of Nature, to look and listen is my Church and to sit on top of an eight thousand foot mountain and look down on the creators" handiwork is like having him sitting beside me, charging up my batteries. He learned to love the outdoors and appreciate the skills of being a hunter from his father's knee; a man who hunted for survival; that was how he provided meat for his family. When he was four years old, a Cree Indian, who was his father's friend, gave him a bow made out of willow and some arrows. This man taught me how to hunt birds and how to recognize different tracks. His father and his Cree friend, used to go hunting moose and deer. While he was too young to actually go with them, he was there every step of way, in his imagination. He waited impatiently for them to come home and talk about what had happened, and he sat next to them and absorbed every word. As soon as he was big enough to go along, he went. He learned to move with stealth and be quiet. He learned how to track, how to stalk, and eventually how to shoot. He has hunted ever since. He made his first trip hunting into the mountains in his early twenties and he fell in love with the experience. His heart calls out for them every fall, and until his friend and hunting partner died, he went every year. It was a time to recharge his batteries in the majestic beauty of the mountains and sharpen his senses as he pitted his skills against the animals that he stalked. He says they are much more skilled than man, and time for time, they usually beat you at the game. Today he lives at Horsefly, B.C., Canada. It's an hour drive to the heart of the mountains, but they are within view from his living room window. Now he is retired and "hunts" fish on his boat on Quesnel Lake which is nestled in the heart of the mountains. Today, he seldom rides horses to hunt for wild game. Now he sees Moose and deer, as well as the odd Elk as he drives down back roads, enjoying the scenery. However, he loves to revisit his hunting experiences in the mountains.
