About the Book

Tim is forced to become the man of the house and provide for his family at the age of 12 after his dad is called overseas for business. Tim's grandpa and father had both told him the urban legend that the bears in the wilderness bit people and turned them into bears. Tim was afraid of the bears, but he had to be brave and go out hunting for food for his family. Would Tim be turned into a bear? Read along as Tim tries to outrun and outsmart the bears. Tim is a fast runner and he is small so he is able to find many hiding places that the bears cannot get into. Tim knew shooting the bears with his bow and arrow would not phase them. If anything it would just make them angrier. Tim was well prepared for his trip with a tent and tools to start a fire to keep warm. His mother had fed him a good meal for dinner the night before and for breakfast so he was full of energy and ready to fend off the bears. The most important thing for Tim was to get away from the bears that hunted him with all of the animals he had killed with his bow and arrow. The animals that he killed with his bow and arrow were enough food to feed his family for two or three weeks and he could not risk losing all of that prey to a bear. Tim decides to set camp up as nightfall is approaching. Exhausted from his day of hunting and avoiding being hunted he quickly falls asleep. His sleep does not last very long as he is rudely awoken by 10 bears that are approaching his tent. He could hear them roaring. He did not have time to grab everything and he would either have to leave the tent behind or the animals that he had captured. He chose to save the animals and food for his family over his tent. Tim was on the run from the bears. There were now 10 behind him and 5 in front of him. He pulled out his bow and arrow to shoot the 5 in front of him and that barely phased them. It did give him enough time to sneak by them and make a break towards home. He had to cut his hunting trip short because there were too many bears for him to handle. Would Tim make it back to his house safely or would he be bitten and turned into a bear? Here is an excerpt from the book. "As Tim heard the roars get closer he hurried up and got to his feet. He knew he would have to live his tent behind and hope that the bears did not tear it up because there was no way he was going to have enough time to get the tent and the animals that he had already captured. He had to choose between saving the tent or saving the animals that he had already captured and the family needed the animal meat in order to survive so the choice was easy. If he had to sleep outside with no tent the following night then that is something that he was comfortable with doing. Tim picked up the prey that he had already captured and started running with it in his backpack. Tim did not have time to think about pulling out his bow and arrow to try shooting the bears. He knew that it would not phase them much but it might slow them down a little bit. Tim was so fast and he was able to dart in and out of places the bears could not. Now there were 10 bears chasing Tim. Tim had never seen so many bears at once but he knew that he had to keep running and never look back. There were too many bears and his mission had been compromised so he had to run towards home."
