About the Book

This work is part of an ongoing effort attempting to make the teachings of Sheikh Khalil Majdalawi (May Allah preserve him) available to a wider audience in the form of short booklets which can be read quickly and easily. The topics in this work begins with reminder that humanity is a single unified whole with a single Lord and a single purpose. This is followed by an understanding of the need for peaceful co-existence despite our differences. Then, the final topic, is knowing who we are as Muslims, maintaining that identity, and calling to it.It is true that the majority of mankind does not believe in the message of Islam but the vast majority do believe in the essential message of faith. They are our fellow man, our brothers and sisters in humanity. As believers in Allah and the Last Day, muslims should be examples for and defenders and protectors of humanity as a whole. We should be those who stand out for justice, establish peace and spread happiness. We should be those who make it their mission to benefit and elevate ourselves, our communities and our societies...acting as the vicegerents of God upon the Earth. The essence of Islam is the call to unity. Belief in the absolute One-ness of God, the unity of creation, the interconnectedness of man and the integrity of the individual. These spheres of unity establish a balance and harmony between man and creation as well as the harmonious relationship between man and his Lord. Any form of treachery with regards to unity causes disharmony and imbalance which causes detriment and loss in one's spiritual life as well as their mundane existence. It is for this reason Muslims are commanded to stand out for justice. It is justice that is the means to reestablishing and keeping balance and harmony amongst mankind. This harmony and balance then leads to a state of wholeness and tranquility which we define as peace; that peace that is found when each component works harmoniously as part of a unified whole. It is exactly this peace that is found as one lives their life according to their very purpose and it is this peace that leads to an experience of happiness. This short work aims to broaden the reader's understanding of the humane call of Islam, the concept of co-existence and the role of the individual in upholding their identities and being agents of transformation in the world around them...and with God alone is every success.
