About the Book

TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ - ALPHABET and THREE LETTER WORDS - This book is a step by step plan which shows you how to present the "Teach Your Child To Read" method in a play-based way to your child. Your child will learn the 26 sounds of the English alphabet and how to read and write most three letter words. You will also learn to show your child how to hold a pencil and write with it; develop your child's fine motor skills, which are needed to learn to read and write. The "Teach Your Child To Read" book has "Teaching Tips" which show you how to begin teaching your child how to read and write; no matter what teaching experience you have. Each step in the reading a writing process is laid out in an easy to do, play based way. When teaching pre-school children to write it is best to develop a child's fine motor skills, especially the "Pincer Grip" for holding a pencil. "Teach Your Child To Read" has lots of tips to help you develop your child's fine motor skills in a play based way, and get your child ready to learn to read and write. This book introduces 26 phonogram letter sounds (phonics) and some Sight words, which once learned by your child will enable them to read most three letter words of the English language. Your child will learn to read and write no matter what your level of experience in teaching. It is important for pre-school children to have play based learning experiences; learning to read and write should be fun, which is covered in the "Ways To Present The Lessons" and "Developing Your Child's Fine Motor Skills" section. Paul Mackie, the author of "How To Teach Children To Read" is a qualified Early Childhood Educator with experience as a Teacher's Assistant and Special Needs Child Care worker with pre-school and grade school children of all ages. The work of Florence Akin and "Word Mastery" teaches the easiest letter sounds (phonograms) to blend into words. Children do not learn the phonetic sound of letters in alphabetical order, but rather starting with "m, n, r, f, s", as these sounds are easiest to prolong (make the sound longer) and by adding simple vowel sounds to create words. New letter sounds are then introduced, using pictures to help pronounce the letter sound, then words are created using those sounds. Another way to teach children to read using phonics is not to use pictures as it may be a distraction; you just show children the letter and say the sound it makes, then using those sounds to make words. No matter which method you use, the result should be the same; children will learn the phonetic sounds of the alphabet. It is essential as teacher that you present the correct lowercase sound of the letter of the alphabet. It is best not to introduce the name (capital uppercase) sound of letters or show children written words until children have mastered the lowercase sounds. "Teach Your Child To Read" shows you step by step how to teach your child to read and write in a play based way, before your child goes to school. When your child goes to grade school they will be reading to learn and not having to learn to read. Science has shown that the best time for a child to learn is between birth and six years of age; and in a play based way.
