I've recovered from PTSD due to child abuse, and know how I did it. My book is packed with information and ideas learned over a lifetime! It starts with first issues: How to approach the book and recovery for maximum success; finding a helper who will help; and a discussion of suicide, including some causes, and the urgency of treatment. Next come obstacles to recovery: Defenses, like denial. What abuse makes you feel about yourself, and how it affects relationships with others. Then we discuss the problem feelings: Anger, fear, grief, and PTSD itself. Then come my strategies and tools for recovery: Anti-depressants and other meds. How to be a good communicator. Standing up to your abuser. Changing your self-talk and self-image. Using positive mental attitude. Finding and living your own life. The power of goals. All these things have helped me to recover. Finally there's a discussion about relationships: The spouse and children. Work relationships. Even the abuser. I show how I've learned to manage these relationships, and make them positive and good. And I suggest the time and terms for forgiveness. You may agree that if I've delivered on all these subjects, my book is worth reading. I've done all I can to make it so, for you.
About the Author: I'm in my 70's now, and looking back, it seems like my life's been spent preparing to write and publish this book. Back in the mid-60's when I first knew something was very wrong with me, it felt like I'd been hit by a truck. It looked awful and hopeless. And now, all these years later, I've overcome my problems, and am leading a happy and rewarding life. I'm married nearly 50 years, and have two sons, and three grandsons. I hold a B.A. in Psychology with some advanced studies in personality. I spent about six years in social work, focused mainly on child abuse and neglect. I also ran a chemistry lab at a medical research center (and worked at others), after completing many college science, math and engineering courses. From this I developed a strong orientation to the scientific method. My respect for that method should be evident in my book. I've also worked as a computer programmer, and have spent over 40 years as a manager, installer and salesman in our family decorating business. And I've had some success with writing. I've put all this training and experience together to write, design and publish my book. And I hope most of all that I've been able to clearly explain exactly how I recovered. My goal has been to get this information out, in hopes that the recovery of others can be shorter, and less painful and easier than mine was.
