A book for girl geeks, by girl geeks! Are you a geek? Do you enjoy geeky things in your spare time, or do you work in a geeky field? Many women who aspire to a geeky lifestyle have experienced sexism, holding them back from their dreams. This book features interviews with famous women in the fields of computer science, science and mathematics, gaming, science fiction and fantasy, and comics and manga to learn how they overcame any sexism they experienced to get where they are today. Each interviewed woman answered questions about: -How her passion for her geeky field grew -How she chose/landed upon her career path -Her current and planned projects -Whether or not she experienced sexism, and how she overcame it if she did -Her advice for girls and women interested in her field. About the Author: Jennifer Thorpe-Moscon was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. In her youth, she loved fantasy and horror, starting with the Goosebumps series, Diana Wynne Jones, and the Twilight Zone, and continuing to authors such as Clive Barker and Anne Rice. She attended Stuyvesant High School, followed by graduating Columbia University with a dual B.A. in psychology and computer science. She received her Ph.D. from NYU in social psychology, where she also honed her skills in statistical analysis. In her spare time, she still enjoys reading, writing, and watching fantasy, science fiction, and horror, with a particular obsession for all things Doctor Who, and also participates in several roleplaying games. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Eric, who is a graphic designer.
